Description

Yampa. It's just fun to say.

Coveted by river guides, outdoor professionals, and die-hards alike, the Chaco Women's ZX/2 Yampa Sandal rocks a rugged, simple, and supportive build. A tough-as-nails Vibram sole protects your foot from the elements, and the Yampa-style sole has a water-specific tread for steadfast track in wet environments. Slide your foot into the strappy upper and revel in the aggressively supportive footbed that cradles your foot through adventure after adventure.
  • Adjust'em uppers use a single strap, threaded through the footbed, to offer a durable and customizable fit
  • AddStride footbed is gender-specific, uses a sculpted heel cup to keep your foot from sliding, and offers aggressive arch support to control pronation
  • Lightweight Yampa sole uses medium-sized lugs and water drainage channels to offer supreme traction in the water or on wet surfaces
  • Vibram soles are resoleable if you wear your Chaco's down to a nub traveling, boating, and generally raising the gnar bar

These sandals are awesome.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I had to spend sometime adjusting the straps to get them right, but once they were adjusted correctly, these sandals are awesome. I was able to walk 10 miles per day for multiple days in a row in these sandals.

What are the differences between the Yampa and the Unaweep?

Responded on

Hi Aurelie,
The Yampa is going to be your better all-around sandal. It has a lighterweight sole, and is generally better for casual/water wear. It reduces the weight by 20% over the Unaweep, and is generally just less chunky. The Unaweep sandals are going to offer a heavier and beefier sole, best for hiking/water use. They will offer better traction overall!

Though the Unaweep may be better for hiking I just bought my Yampa's and use them to hike all the time, they are my climbing approach shoes as well.

All-time adventure shoe.

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Love my Chacos. At first, they were uncomfortable and tight. After I adjusted the straps and they started molding to my feet, I never wanted to take them off. They go great with shorts, jeans and t-shirts. Also great to wear in the water. If they start to smell, just throw them into the washer. I wore them all over Bermuda when touring this summer. Very comfortable.

If you decide to go with these wonderful shoes; welcome to the Chaco family :)

A must have.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These are my first pair of chaco's and I am not disappointed! Its early in the season and I've already worn these rugged sandals on several hikes in Moab and through La Platta County. The vibram soles, that really support the arch of your foot in combination with the adjustable straps that are versitille enough to hug my rather shallow and narrow foot make these sandals comfortable and supportive. Love. these. Sandals. Period.

great for all of summer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I just got these for my wife. She has been wanting a pair for a while and ended up on the double strap. She has been loving them so far and wearing them all of the time. The Yampa sole is much more low profile in comparison to the unaweep, it does have less tread but will still hold its ground in any activity. These are perfect for any river trip and work well for hiking, other than the occasional pebble in the sole. If you are looking for a great performance sandal that you can wear all summer, look no further! buy yourself a pair of chacos!

Fantastic! But runs narrow...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Got the ZX/2 Yampas in Light Beam - gorgeous, versatile color, my normal size 8 is good in length. But for the first time in my entire life they were too narrow (I usually have the opposite problem with shoes)! The sides of my food hung over the sides of the shoe and the vertical ankle straps dug into my ankle. I purchased the same shoe in the wide width but unfortunately BC does not carry the wide so I had to go elsewhere. Just be aware if your foot is anything but quite narrow, especially at the heel, you may prefer the wider width. In a sz 8, the heel cup in base of the reg width is 2"W & space between vertical ankle straps is 2.25". The 8W has 2.25"across the bottom of the heel cup and 2.5" between the ankle straps. Also about .25" more in width across foot at base of ball of foot (3.25" across between straps vs 3"). Depends on how tight you want them I guess. The tighter heel cup might lock your foot in better, but I wanted something for long distance walking and worried the sides would dig in and rub. Arch is very high and wide, great for preventing tired feet or for overpronators. I can walk indefinitely in these things, and they look great with any kind of clothing -- the double straps give them a bit more fashion zip than the regular z/2 yampas and they are lighter weight and a little less bulky than the uniweeps.

Versatile Sandal

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Got a pair of these for my girlfriend to match mine that she liked. She loves hers and wears them everywhere, river trips, camping, hiking etc. She loves that the puple color has purple soles.

Only comes in whole sizes, if you are a half go down. So shes a 6.5 and wears a 6. These offer alot of arch support and will shorten your foot a little bit.

Rock solid for rigorous hiking and comfy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I wanted to travel light for my 3-week trip to Guatemala and needed shoes that would take me from city streets in casual skirts to rough trails. I fretted over my choices and hoped these would work out (I tend to get blisters easily). Though I brought a pile of bandages I never once needed one and never used the backup sandals I'd brought in case these gave me trouble. The footbed is amazing, and with the easily adjusted straps, my footing even on rocky, gnarly, slippery trails was rock solid. I loved how I could adjust them when my feet swelled after being on the plane for many hours, ensuring they always fit perfectly. In fact, I loved them so much I'm ordering two more pairs in other colours. One note about sizing: I usually wear 9 or 8.5 in other brands I got these in 8 in-store and they're perfect.

hard to adjust

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I just ordered these shoes and I've had then for 5 hours and I've only adjusted one shoe. The diagram on the box only shows one shoe and I can't adjust the other. The shoe that I am able to adjust is very comfortable; however.

Taking a break while hiking up the trail on Big Mountain. Perfection.

Amazing, Will Last For A Lifetime!

They look great! When I first go them they didn't fit quite right, once they're broken they are a dream. I haven't taken them off since I purchased them! I use they for causal dress and hiking,

True Love.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these sandals for a three-week trip to Europe. I only wanted to pack one pair of shoes but need arch support or my feet can't make it through the day. They far exceeded my expectations!

I really wanted to love these!

I bought these knowing how many people loved them and was optimistic that I would love them as well. I wore these for four hours on a easy flat hike and came back with two blisters on each foot. Also almost twisted my ankle a couple times and could not adjust the straps the right way. They were either too tight in the front and perfect in the ankle or too loose in the back and perfect I'm the toe. I would buy these to wear instead of flip flops but not for trail walking or "outdoorsy" activities. Cute shoe, but when my feet kill, I don't care how stylish they are!

I wanted to check in and see if you have had any more luck with your ZX2's. Let me know if you want to get in contact, it sounds as if you had some issues adjusting them which can make a big difference in how they perform. The Zx2 is super capbable and I would love to assist in making them work for you!

Great!

The only issue is that that strap you use to tighten the sandal is a bit long if you have a slender foot.

Great!

I love them!

The only reason I didn't give these a 5 star rating is because they're not necessarily the kind of shoe you can wear with anything. BUT they're comfortable, stylish and are of a very good quality. Plus, this website offers them 25% off...can't beat that!

If you have never owned a pair of Chaco's don't worry about how "hard" it is to adjust the shoes. It's not hard, it just takes patience. If you want them to be comfy right out of the box, it isn't going to happen. You have to adjust the straps to your foot, which can take about an hour or so of wearing them. But it's not "difficult" or "hard."

I love them!

Does the Yampa have as good of support as the others?

Best Answer Responded on

Yes. It's just the lower-profile, lighter-weight outsole, and vegan construction that sets it apart. Some folks like them better than the Unaweep because it's quite a bit lighter.

Responded on

No difference in Support.

do they come in wide?

These are great as far as being a sandal with a vibram sole, and I like this new Yampa style sole over the traditional options. The double strap is always a nice touch, and seems like it helps to customize the fit better than one wide strap, and the green colors are especially awesome. They take some time to figure out the best strap adjustment, but I am also convinced I need the wide version, which does not seem to be available (or wasn't at the time I bought these).

So I would caution anyone with wide feet to seek out the wide version, otherwise, if you're a Chaco fan, you're bound to enjoy these.
