With Chacos, is it usually better to size up or down? I have a pair with the toe loop in my normal size 7, but I don't like to wear them because they just don't feel "right"... I thought maybe Chacos just aren't for me, but I had my feet measured and apparently I'm a 6-6.5, just with long toes... should I size down to a 6 instead? I am afraid if they are too short in the front, I will stub my toes!

These are amazing! There is no break in time at all with these. You just put them on and they are immediately comfortable. Highly recommend. I never want to take them off and wear them with socks even in the winter! :)

Since the brown sandal looks black you can wear it either with black or brown pants. The red is not as bright as it's portrayed online; rather it's a more light maroon color. My foot measures a size 6.5 and I've worn the chacos sandal with a toe loop for 3+yrs. I always thought they might be small, and turns out they were. I wear a size 7 without a toe loop much better AND it feels secure enough in which to hike. Hope this helps. Michelle

I love chacos and have a permanent tan from wearing them almost all the time. I love them for arch support. But I have to admit this newest pair seems to rub me in a way the last 2 pairs did not. They must be changing them a bit - still have some sore places on my feet, but it's worth the other qualities
The perfect fit

My foot measures 6.5, and I usually wear a size 6.5 or 7 shoe. I wore chacos sandals with the toe loop for 2 yrs. a size 6. I finally decided that my toe had become numb cause I was wearing too small a shoe for all that time.....and...YES, that was the reason as I just bought a pair without the toe loop and the single strap in a size 7. The fit perfectly. Now the arch support hits me exactly at my arch. Love them in size 7. Hope this helps you figure out your size. Michelle

Size: For athletic shoes I typically wear a men's 11.5 since women's 12.5 are hard to come by. For casual/dress shoes I wear a women's 12. With these sandals I could use the extra half size but since Chaco doesn't do have sizes I think they'll work fine (definitely better than a men's 12 which is huge on my foot).
Purpose: I bought these sandals for an upcoming trip to Mali, West Africa. I was told that for everyday and hiking, sandals are the way to go because you can just kick the sand out rather than having to constantly take your shoe off and dump it out.

These shoes have just the right amount of padding for the bottom of my feet. They are comfortable and great for walking!

I have a pair of Chacos that I love, though I wonder if they get compressed and sort of "dead" feeling, sole is fine, just feel as forgiving. Any thoughts out there?

I'm on my second pair of the flip-flop version of the Chaco's, which I believe have the same basic sole technology. My first pair lasted three years of near constant use in the summer, and indoor use as slippers in the winter. I can confidently report that they never get a "dead" feeling in the sole like other cheaper sandals that get compressed. They finally kicked the bucket because the strap frayed and broke, otherwise they would still be on my feet. They are great soles for sure, and their price is good when you consider how long they last compared to cheaper foam-based flip-flops.

The whole idea behind the Chaco midsole is that it does not "compress", "pack out" , "Flatten like a piece of bubble gum in the street".
Polyurethane is the mid sole material, which is used as a mid sole in high end backpacking boots, Poly keeps is hardness (durometer), thus keeping the same arch support and impact resistance for years after year. Thats why we can Re-web and re-sole the z sandals, cause 90% of the time it is the sole and the webbing that wears thin.
Ethylene- Vinyl acetate or better known as EVA is the foam most all shoe and sandal midsoles are made from. EVA has great initial cushion, is cheap, and is very light, but it has millions of tiny air bubbles that will pop over time and lose its thickness and cushion. Thats why you will see the imprint of your foot on cheap foam sandals. Some people think this is neat, and that their sandals are now comfortable and "broken in," but you should consider that the foot print that has been made is now 100% different from when you bought the shoe.... You have probably 50-90% less cushion from when you bought it, the straps are way looser due to the thinner footbed, the arch support and shape of the footbed is now changed, and it looks like a dirty paw print...
I love EVA, probably half of my shoes use EVA, but that is not the idea of Chaco. People need to trust that their chacos are not going to die in the middle of the backcountry, from history and experience people expect to get years out of their Chacos. At Chaco we do everything we can to ensure that we are satisfying our customers. I guarantee that you can not find another shoe that has more photos of it "in use" floating around the internet. Maybe chaco people just like to take photos of their feet, I don't know..

Got these for a killer deal on SAC and love them! I wear them hiking, gardening, in the river, to the dog park, or just around town. They're support is unmatched by any other sandal I've ever had (aside from my several other pairs of chacos). They are well-made, love the vibram soles on these, because I know they will look the same after five years of wear as they do today. I am usually between a 5 and 6 in chacos and other brands, but sized down to a 5 in these. Don't hesitate to buy these, you will wonder how you lived without them when you get them!

I'm not sure what the name is but I am unable to find it either. Chances are they don't make it anymore. Check out the Chaco official site.

These are really comfortable for me, supporting and encasing my high-arched feet perfectly. They are much more comfortable (and well-constructed!) than the Tevas that I wore to death all too soon. These are great for travelling - they work for both hiking (great grip from the soles) and cities. I'm usually a 6.5; I ordered size 6 and they fit perfectly. If I had gotten a size up, the straps would have been too long, and the heel would have flopped around a bit. I'd always thought I had wide feet, but I guess overall I have 'low volume' feet (kinda boney).
Where are these manufactured these days?...

Where are these manufactured these days? Also, I wear a size 8 1/2 or 9. What would be the best size for me?

Most Chaco's are manufactured in China as they have been for a few seaons and in regards to the sizing, from personal experience, I would try a size 09.0.
Look ma, no velcro!

I'm a relative newbie to the Chaco scene; I've been wearing my first-ever pair for the past year and a half. I was hesitant when I first put them on; the very prominent arch tempted me to send them back. I'm SO glad I didn't. After the initial break-in period (a week or so), the sandals get a nice better-than-barefoot feel. The fit is so very customizable--which comes in handy on long backpacking trips when one's feet start to swell. I take an 8.5 or 9 in trail runners, but the Chaco women's 8 works for me. I've learned to keep them nice and loose, and I don't have to worry about chafing or blisters.
I wore these nearly every day for four weeks this summer while walking el Camino de la Costa across northern Spain. That's 20 to 30 km a day through mud and mountains and city streets, in July heat. They held up well and gave me a killer sandal tan (far superior to a sock tan). The straps dry fast and there is no velcro to wear out or get gunked-up. The Vibram outsole grips like a dream.
My only wish, being a bit of a flat-footed supinator, is that Chaco would come out with a lower-arch version of these. I know I'm a minority here; most people lap up the arch support. Plus, after months of regular wear, I've flattened out the footbed so that it isn't so much of an issue. They still get 5 stars, because there is no finer footwear on the planet. Too bad they don't let me wear open-toed footwear at work.
Perfect!

I wanted a pair of non-slip, comfortable sandals that were fairly rugged for hiking/walking on wet surfaces.... but I didn't want the toe strap thing.... I ordered these, hoping they wouldn't be floppy or loose. They're WONDERFUL!! I wore them on a trip to Costa Rica - pretty much for the entire time (except when we were DIRECTED to wear closed toe, high boots because of certain little poisonous critters slithering around....) They get tight by the end of the day, but I can easily adjust the straps and wiggle around and they're fine! I also LOVE (and did not expect) the feature of never really having to re-buckle them-- you just loosen the straps, slide in, tighten 'em up and take off!!!
rugged, comfortable, and good looking.

Like all Chaco sandals the Z/1s are durable, well designed for comfort and support, and look neat and trim on your feet because of the flat webbing - which also won't get caught on passing snags as you walk, like the bulkier, leather-on-webbing sandals. The only thing I can gripe about is that the buckle digs in a little when sitting with my feet underneath me (which I'm getting too old to do anymore, anyway!!). I buy size 7 in Chaco sandals, though I normally wear 7.5 or 8. Highly recommended; get several pairs!!
