Performance flippy floppys

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I have been wanting to pick a pair of these up for a long time. I am not a fan of regular flip flops (not enough support) and I absolutely love my Chaco Z2's, these bridge the gap perfectly. Stout enough to handle some technical maneuvers without being quite as big (heavy) as some of the other Chaco sandals which I don't really mind the weight but I know that is definitely a concern for some people.

This product runs small for me. My Z2's are an 11 wide and I went with size 12 in the Hipthong. Fits great.

glad to be back in the hipthong

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is my third pair of hipthongs, not that they broke, I lost one sandal in a hydrolic and the other walked off with my friend and he lost them. I am glad that I am finally able to get another pair because they have always been my favorite sandal by chaco. As the post shows below they are not for everyone. Some peoples feet just dont fit into the right and they come off all of the time. They have always worked for me and I have never had trouble keeping them on my feet. Chaco has made a small change the x straps are now a stretchy material which gives them a little more cushiony feeling... I dont really like it, I feel like the sandals dont stay on quite as well. But I am glad I have another pair and will be wearing them all summer.

Runs small.

  • Fit: Runs small

I bought a pair for my dad and my wife bought me a pair for Christmas. These ran small. We also have thick/tall feet; my dad couldn't get his feet past the straps. Mine were more properly fitted, but my feet actually would slip out the back. Great shoe, but they didn't work for me. I got my a different style, I think it was he z1 unaweeps, and he loves them.

do anything thong

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are a do anything thong...the extra strap keeps in on your foot for light hiking, super comfortable and they get rid of the dreaded flip-flop drag/sponge sound when walking around...My only issue with these is that I can't just slide into and out of these like a regular thong, I need to either sit down or bed over to adjust the extra strap.

Key addition to a Flip Fans collection

Huge fan of the regular Chaco flip so I was interested in trying something else from them. The extra straps of the hip thong seemed strange at first so I wore them loose to start with. After wearing them for a while I tightened the straps and found that they gave just enough extra security that they became my go to flip for being active in. Great comfort and extra security!

Odd Fit

When I saw these sandals, I thought they would be the perfect balance between the look of thongs and the security of the Z2s. However the fit is odd. The position of the thong is set too far back. I had plenty of room at the front but my heels hung off the back. Adjusting the straps didn't change this. I haven't and this problem with any other flip flops or the Z2s. So unfortunately, I had to return them.

Beefier than Chaco's regular flips

These are beefier than the regular Chaco flips, more akin to Z1 footbed than the flip footbed as far as thickness and protection from sharp rocks and such. Would've gotten 5 stars, but the extra criss-crossed straps aren't like the normal webbing - they stretch a bit, losing said stretch over time. Not super important as I like mine a bit loose so things don't get stuck underneath my feet, but a little different than I expected.

Nice sandal

Definitely size a half size up. I wear an 11 almost across the board, with an exception of a 12 in Nike, and the arch of these was almost to the ball of my foot, and my heel hung off the back. however, very nice construction, and i could see these becoming very hard not to wear once broken in.

Great All around sandal

I picked up a pair of these for around $35 and after wearing them for about 2 weeks loved the some much I got a second pair. These stay on your feet in rivers and lakes unlike any other flip flop but are easier to get on and off than sandals with a backstrap. Like most high quality shoes they do have a break in period but for me that only lasted a few days. If see a good price on these grab them...you won't be sorry.

Best flip flops ever

These are the most comfortable flips I've ever owned. They take a little getting used to, but really stay on your feet even in situations you would not normally use flips for ie creaking, etc. Also, they stay against your feet so there's no annoying flopping sound when you walk.

Great flips, if you can get a bargain

Bought these sandals off of steepandcheap.com for about 50% off. At that price, they are unbeatable. The additional straps ensure a snug and comfortable fit. Contrary to most flips, you don't have to exercise your toe muscles to keep them on your feet.

Pros: Fit, tan lines, comfort, versatility, durability
Cons: Break-in period, price

Responded on

I agree on everything except for the break-in period, it was very short for me. However, I got the leather version, so maybe that makes a difference?
