The fancy new smartphone- or GPS-based cycling computers are easy to love. They do things that old-school, Earth-based computers could never do, and they make translating your training data a snap. However, they all suffer from reliability issues, and they probably always will. It’s tough to be 100% reliable when you’re counting on a component that’s miles away or, even more remote, resides in space. While Earth-bound systems, such as the Cateye Strada Slim Wireless Cycling computer, lack some of the super-high-tech features, they are much, much more reliable. As far as crunching data is concerned, you can duplicate much fancier systems with a little mathematical know-how.
The Strada Slim is the grandson of the immensely popular Cateye Strada computer. All the original’s features carry over but, like many grandsons, the Slim version is 35% smaller. The screen, however, is 23% larger to make the data easier to read. Even the fork mount has shrunk: it’s now 47% slimmer than the original and can be mounted inside the fork blades, which makes it nearly invisible and provides protection.
