Cool weather style, comfort, and warmth.
Shorter days call for longer sleeves as the median temp hovers in the high 50s. These are the days for which Castelli developed the Long-Sleeve Velocissimo Equipe Jersey. A perfect blend of warmth, coverage, and breathability make the Velocissimo an ideal top for fall or spring riding.
Constructed from Castelli's Warmer fabric, the Velocissimo Jersey's great by itself, or layered for added cool weather comfort. This synthetic textile features a fleecy inside for next-to-skin comfort, wicking performance, and thermal insulation. The Warmer fabric is also stretchy to allow ample movement, and it has a smooth face to help reduce drag.
The Velocissimo is treated with a process Castelli refers to as Presecco. This fabric treatment enhances the synthetic Warmer fabric's already inherent wicking properties by spreading perspiration quickly and evenly for efficient evaporation. This ensures your core stays dry; preventing clamminess if it's chilly or preventing overheating if the mercury climbs.
Enabling the Velocissimo's technical properties is a body-contouring shape that packs a century of custom-tailored cycling apparel under it's belt. Castelli knows a thing or two about fit, and has defined modern cycling wear with many firsts, including Lycra shorts. An example of Castelli's innovation in the Velocissimo is the sleeves; they are articulated forward.
This allows for maximum body contact without binding, wrinkles, or excess material when settled into the natural riding position. Not only does this ensure excellent aerodynamics, it permits the Velocissimo to utilize the optimized fabric to its fullest potential. Out of the box, the Velocissimo will fit tight against the chest and unnatural when prepping for a ride, but once seated and spinning its superior design comes to light.
Adding to that design is a full-length camlock zipper that allows ventilation fine tuning that won't migrate when pedaling. The Velocissimo's lower hem has a wide silicon gripper to prevent riding up, and the three rear pockets are secure and easy to reach when riding. Castelli Long-Sleeve Velocissimo has a full compliment of reflective elements for low-light safety, and it's available in Green/Black, Black, and Red/White with sizes ranging from X-Small through to X-Large.

Nice cool weather jersey
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Appearance and fit: As with all Castelli items, you most likely will want to size up. I normally take a small in everything (29" waist, 35.5" chest), but bought a medium. While the arms have a little extra fabric, which is okay because it leaves a little space for layering, the fit is still trim. A proper small would probably be almost like a second skin, which might suit the legitimate racers but would crush the self-esteem of anyone with any flaws (love handles, spare tire). Aesthetically, the jersey looks sharp--the picture doesn't do it justice.
Functionality: Castelli rates the jersey for wear in 59-68 degree temps, but I would only suggest this if you're not acclimated to cooler temps. I can only see someone wearing this at 68 if it was cloudy and windy. I've worn this on a 7am ride with clear skies and 40 degree temps (10 mph winds) with only a base layer and the Castelli Sorpasso knickers. I felt comfortable throughout the ride--dry and neither too hot nor too cool. This is why you pay the big bucks for this gear. The jersey isn't windproof, so I felt noticeably cooler when I turned into the wind; however, that's a feature and not a defect of the design, which is to let air in to keep you dry.
On the back is the red Castelli TT, which helps with visibility (and looks pretty darned cool, too).

This shirt keeps you going all day on a cold day. Comfortable, breathable, and easy cycle into the wind. Size is 1-grade smaller than the usual US size system.
