The San Remo Speedsuit is the result of Castelli combining the most aerodynamic, breathable, and lightweight garments in their closet into one piece of wearable technology. Designed for every cycling application from the Pyrenees to the time trial, the San Remo Speedsuit has shattered the mold of aerodynamic garment design.

The Castelli Speedsuit's revolutionary, patented design was achieved by a precise combination of fabrics, and an outside-the-box approach to aerodynamic design. The Speedsuit idea started with Castelli re-envisioning the application of a skinsuit. While offering superior aerodynamic performance, the lack of pockets and the inability for nature breaks make the skinsuit notoriously impractical for daily riding or road racing. The solution was clear, combine the two fastest, lightweight garments in the Castelli closet, and make them into one cohesive piece that's more aerodynamic as a whole than separate. So, Castelli made the lower portion from the nearly seamless Body Paint shorts, and used the Aero Race jersey for the upper. Body Paint feels as it sounds, like a barely-there skin layer that minimizes your aerodynamic footprint. It's Castelli's most lightweight and quick-drying lower fabric, and features a slight dimpling on the legs to create an aerodynamic boundary layer (think of a golf ball). The Aero Race upper is Castelli's top-shelf race jersey, and is so aero that it's claimed to save 12 watts at 40km/h over a normal, high-end jersey. The upper features a silicone printing on the side panels to further induce turbulence, and thus shave more time and precious watts from your ride. The two garments are integrated in the fashion of a skinsuit at the hips, only deviating from stitched integration at the very front as to allow nature breaks on or off the bike—seriously, Castelli tested it.

Castelli's idea for an everyday skinsuit has been extended to every facet of the San Remo Speedsuit, and we're ecstatic that the Progetto X2 chamois made the cut. Castelli's most innovative chamois, the Progetto's surface uses a skin-care layer comprised of a seamless bacteriostatic fabric that conforms to the body without folding. The material supports airflow, and aids in evaporation. The second layer is multi-density foam with variable thickness placed where you need it, not where you don't. The comfort level is also aided by Castelli's Viscous comfort inserts; a perforated padding added to the highly-sensitive ischia and perineum pressure regions. In addition to Castelli's best chamois, the San Remo Speedsuit also comes with three rear storage pockets that are designed to stay in place under load, and a full-length camlock hidden zipper for quick ventilation.

Speed suit is sweet!

The biggest decision in buying this suit is picking the size. I'm 6'2' 190 lbs and i normally wear an XL. After reading several comments from others on sizing for Castelli products I went with the suggestion to go up one size (XXL). It is almost painted on. There is no way I could have got an XL on. I thought the arms were the tightest of all. Very light and thin.

Finest piece of cycling clothing I have put on period. I am 5'11" 130lbs. 32.5 in chest, 29in waist and I bought a small which fits perfect. They have a good length inseam on the shorts which is nice for taller skinnier like my self. If you don't have one of these you should get one.

Question about sizing. I am 5'11" at 155 lbs. I wear size L in Body Paint 2.0 bib and XL in last years Aero Race Jersey. Should I go with L or XL in the Speed Suit?

I am 5'11 130lbs, 32.5in chest and 29in waist and I have a small which fits perfect. you could base your sizing off of that.

I'm 5'10", 160 lbs, 33" waist. I went with the XL. Just about right. I probably could squeeze in to a L but that might be too tight. 3 pockets in the back with snug elastic at the pocket openings to keep them from flapping around. Full length zipper is nice. I have nothing like this to compare against. I usually ride Giordana bibs in a L. The fit is nice at the shoulders, nothing that flaps around. I have only done 2 rides with this speed suit, one a flat training ride and the other an uphill TT race. My speed on the flat training ride was up a little compared to other rides at about the same power output. Could have been the wind or the suite or both. The uphill TT went well. I did use aero bars. Hot with a tail wind. Personal best time. I'm certain the wind had something to do with that one. The speed suit just disappeared, really nice to ride in. Might be the end of bibs and jersey. As others have said these are just shorts and a jersey sewn together but it works really really well.

Mediocre. Search for good skinsuit continues

Returned unused. For the retail price, this thing seems cheaply made. The fabric is extremely thin and poorly finished. Construction seems delicate to say the least. Worst of all there is no compressive fit because the fabric is so light. The legs grippers are almost non-existent - definitely the poorest ones I've seen. Looking to a different maker.

I'd have to disagree. I haven't ridden in it yet, but you're either in between sizes (in which case it won't work for you) or something else. I've only tried mine on but it's awesome. It's supposed to be thin. I've also found my high end castelli stuff to be top notch.

I agree with the OP completely. I had to return the Gore Xenon 2.0 bibs (Small) because it wasn't comfortable for long distance. I talked with the Real Cyclist Advisor (Aaron?) via IM. He suggested going with any Castelli with the Progetto X2 insert like the Body Paint bibs. I saw the San Remo suit and thought it was too unique to pass up. It's expensive, but some bibs cost almost as much without the added benefit of a jersey. I am 5'5.5" 135-140lbs I wear a Small; I was warned that the legs will probably be a little long, and I do have to agree. My only complaint is I wish there was an option to have the legs 3 inches shorter for us small folk.

It IS tight, but not unbearably. The increased compression means better wicking for cooler rides. Most pleasantly, the wind has nothing to hold onto; there is no flapping of excess material. One pro rider commented wearing the San Remo feels like riding naked. I second that comment whole heartedly. It's such a step ahead of every piece of kit I own I don't want to wear anything else. Finally, the chamois is as good as the Real Cyclist Advisor said; I've never been more comfortable in the saddle. I've never felt faster.

Wow. What a great kit. I hemmed and hawed and finally took the plunge to buy this and I'm glad I did. This suit is SO comfy. I would say that the Sanremo suit is to a regular jersey and bibs as bib shorts are to regular bike shorts. The one-piece construction is such a good idea; riding with the top unzipped produces much less flapping than a jersey would, and bathroom breaks are easier in these shorts than any pair of bibs I've ever owned.

A couple of tips though; I usually wear "Euro" or "Racer" cut jerseys, and so the tight fit wasn't off-putting. If you prefer a looser fit then this isn't the kit for you (it's essentially a skinsuit). Also, make sure you size up; I wear Medium bibs in every brand except Assos (Large) and I got an XL Sanremo and it's not too big.
