    Old is new.

Razzle dazzle camo is far from a fleeting, of-the-moment trend. The artful naval camouflage evoking comparisons to the Cubist movement traces its roots back to the World Wars, but we’ve seen it in a few places its creator might not have predicted. Appearing quietly on off-season kits worn by the likes of Sagan and Contador, razzle dazzle is making an impact on the cycling world. We teamed up with Castelli to celebrate this resurgence, creating the Competitive-exclusive Women’s Razzle Free Aero Bib Shorts. The Razzle Free Aero is our own take on the trend that will do anything but make you blend in on the road.

While we had a clear aesthetic direction when designing this kit, we knew we were far better off leaving construction and fit to the experts at Castelli. We added the graphics to the platform of Castelli’s top-tier, supremely comfortable race bib model, the Free Aero, to ensure the shorts come with the functionality to back up their eye-catching graphics. Though the Free Aero was constructed to be an enviable addition to race kit, Castelli’s clear focus on comfort for the women-specific design doesn’t exclude it from becoming a favorite training kit if you don’t race.

Panels of dimpled Vortex fabric lead the way into the wind on the outer thighs, helping the shorts slice more efficiently through the wind, while supportive Forza fabric constitutes the inner thighs. Forza’s Lycra content establishes a stable fit that's only further complemented by Castelli’s contoured cut. This combination limits muscle vibrations to slow down the onset of fatigue on long rides.

Castelli reshaped the waistband construction on the women’s version of the Free Aero, ensuring it provides the right mix of support and forgiveness to your waist and lower back as you’re stretched out over the saddle for hours at a time. Further, it used its most open bib design on the Free Aero for an unrestricting fit across your chest during hard efforts on hot days. The minimal design is made with airy, breathable mesh, expertly cut to stay securely in place as you stand out of the saddle to finish a climb.

Far from simply a finishing touch, the included Progetto X2 Air Donna chamois delivers a blend of flexible, targeted support to relieve fatigue in the saddle without inhibiting your freedom of movement. It’s a resplendent display of women-specific chamois design done right. Ample stretch and a soft, odor-resistant microfiber top layer work to ventilate and keep chafing to a minimum, making the Razzle a short you shouldn’t hesitate to reach for on back-to-back rides.

    My new fav!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

Absolutely worth the splurge. It's my first bib short and first Castelli product, and I'm a total convert! No pinching or tight elastic at the waist like the rest of my shorts. I wear it for MTB rides, and the chamois is not too thick or bulky but even after a recent 40-mile ride (longer than normal for me!) I wasn't sore or uncomfortable at all.
I ordered my normal "euro" size, one size up. Fits snugly for sure, but not in a bad way, just... wriggle to get it on but then it's supportive and fits like a glove. A really snug bib-glove.

Construction is sturdy but lightweight. I was worried about the durability of the straps because they are so soft with laser-cut edges (no binding or elastic at the red part), but after half a summer of at-least-once-a-week wearing & washing, everything is holding up well. Not all of the seams are flatlocked, but the ones that aren't don't rub or leave marks.

The stripe pattern is snazzy but neutral enough to wear with other tops. I'm not normally a matching-jersey kinda gal, but I may splurge on the matching stripey top as well since the fit, fabric, and construction on this one are so nice.
