Description

Your ‘Magic Man’ title awaits.

Presto is what stretchy shorts do for you in the eyes of the public. You wear skin-tight shorts while riding a bike and poof! You're a cyclist, a super-hero. Wearing Castelli Presto Bib Shorts makes you a smart, comfortable cyclist in the eyes of those in the know.

We consider these to have a moderately conservative look for Castelli gear. The eight-panel design is curved to fit your body, but they're only using one kind of Lycra, Affinity. Affinity is your classic 190g spandex fabric that is smooth, semi-matte, and has great stretch and rebound. The Castelli name on the legs is sublimated into the fabric so it will look great for the life of the shorts. The panels are sewn together with four-needle flatlock stitching, which is a great-looking, durable method of joinery. Castelli uses contrast stitching to highlight the curved panel design. The bib is classic mesh fabric and the legs are held in place with silicone gel grippers. Each of the legs has reflective tabs on the back.

The chamois is Castelli's KISS3 seat pad. The KISS pad is a simpler version of the Castelli's Progetto X2 chamois. The top layer is soft and seamless and lined with 4mm of cushy foam. Underneath that soft layer is an infinitely-shaped high-density foam pad that gives you exactly the right kind of protection exactly where you need it.

The Castelli Presto Bib Shorts come in four colors and are sized from Small to XX-Large.

  • Gel leg grippers prevent shorts from shifting in flight
  • Affinity Lycra provides excellent rebound qualities won’t lose shape even if you do
  • Four-needle flatlock stitching for added strength and durability.

Good use, poorly constructed.

These shorts were a steal at the price point I paid. Although with a deal there is always the silver lining. A week after purchasing these bibs the threading securing the chamois started coming lose. Also some of the stitching holding together the materials. A wash or two and all the ironed on Castelli lettering and logos started peeling off.

The chamois was very comfortable, and I appreciated the leg gripping materials on the underside of the legs. I just wish the shorts did not look like they were falling apart on me as much of the threading had come loose.

Descent short, poor quality

I bought these at chainlove even though the reviews bashed the lettering. I didn't care about the lettering and bought them anyways. As expected, the lettes came off during the first ride. Not in the wash, but while riding. No biggy, I was expecting it. Wore them two more times in the next month. After the third ride I noticed the chamois stitching was pulling out. That is no bueno. The chamois was hanging down in the back after the ride. I wash according to their instructions on their website BTW.

I have emailed their customer support as directed by chainloves email response since they only honor a warranty for 30 days, and will see what Castelli has to say.

Review

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Pros: Comfortable
Cons: Poor quality stitching on Chamois, mine came loose after 3 rides, Logos peel off almost immediately.

Also definitely size up. I'm around 160-165 and almost 6' and the Large was good... No way a medium would fit me

Just ok

Got these at a good price. I have only put a hundred miles or so on them, and they are just ok. I have had worst bibs for sure. But no where near the best. The jury is till out on how they will hold up over time. After reading the reviews, I was not surprised when the lettering (only on the right side though) came off after the first wash. Not a big deal I guess since its just lettering and has nothing to do with function. But it makes you wonder if they cant get that right, what else did they slack on in the design...

Good bibs at a reasonable price

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for some reasonably priced bibs to wear on shorter rides. I bought 3 of these for $55 apiece. Despite others'concerns that these run small, the mediums fit me just fine. The bib straps are a little narrow and the chamois is not quite as plush as more expensive bibs, but, for about 1/3 of the price they're a bargain.

Bib experience: Giordana Tenax, Sportful Bodyfit Pro LE

Size: 6' 155 lb Usually wear medium bib

Club rider. No racing.

Unlike other castelli bibs

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have (2) other pairs of castelli bib shorts. the others are team shorts. They fit so much better than these presto. The presto runs more than a half size small compared to its other bibs.

Still rather comfortable but the shoulder straps tend to bunch up and are way to short.

Great bib

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This bib is really good. I prefer it over any any of my summer weight gear. I'm quite tall, and would have preferred a tad more length, but the chamois is just right and overall these are very comfortable.

Not very good

I've put over 500 miles into these bibs now and well, I want to like them, but they suck. I've been alternating between these and a pair of Louis Garneau Neo Power bibs. The LG bibs put these things to shame. First, let me talk about the lettering, since it seems to be a hot topic. My lettering is fine. I haven't had any peel off. I wash them on a delicate cycle and hang them to dry. No problems there. It's everything else though! The stitching is coming undone on the straps, chamois (it's barely holding on at this point), and along many of the seams. What crappy build quality. I really don't like the chamois. I think a chamois is a preference type of thing, but this one just doesn't feel like it has been sewn in the right place. It's too far back and just rides up my butt. The straps are rough too and not very comfortable. In fact all of the material is just a bit rough and feels kind of cheap. The leg grippers don't grip my legs too well and end up sliding up as I ride.

I am 6'4" tall and 185 pounds and went with the XL. They fit good, but like I said, the shorts tend to ride up my legs and they sit just about mid thigh.

I got these for a really good sale price at my local shop, but it was obviously a "you get what you pay for" situation. I have a Castelli jersey and a pair of Castelli Nero Bib Knickers and they are both excellent. But these you should pass on! Get the LG Neo Power bibs! They are a BILLION times better, especially if you are tall.

Bought two pairs.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got my first pair about 2 months ago, prolly put 250 miles on them. WAY better than my Pearl Izumi Quest shorts that I started with. These were so good I bought another pair. They are comfortable, Dont move, and feel like you are wearing nothing when you ride.

Sure the letters peel off, but seriously, who cares about the letters?!? For the $55 I got both pairs for, I am willing to bet there is nothing else on the market at that price that will beat it.

Very comfortable

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This Bib fits great, very comfortable, no snug down below, great support. With this Bib, I felt that I could go for those extra miles. Felt dry all the way from beginning of the ride until the end. Good product, good price, yes I would recommend this product.

good stuff

Fells pretty good, but it is very slippery on the saddle. I slide around more than with other shorts. But otherwise very comfortable

Forget the lettering; great shorts

I read the reviews and gathered they were decent performing shorts and at a great price. Forget the lettering. Mine started peeling after the first ride. Peeled the all off and bam! Problem Solved! Put in a couple 20-30 mile rides with positive results, then nervously took the plunge and wore them on a double century, as they seemed better than any of my other higher priced shorts. No problems whatsoever. I'm impressed. For the price these are going at, they are a great mid-range bib short.

Responded on

I agree. One of my pairs the letter started coming off the first ride. After three rides, all gone. Good bib and wouldnt send them back but it's disappointing.

Ok bibs

I was hoping that I wouldn't have the decal issues that others mentioned but I did. After one ride and no washing, the lettering on the legs began to peel away. I hate to see what will happen after hand washing. I also noticed that they run a bit small even when you order a size larger. I like compression on the legs and rear but these bibs just felt too tight. They were also too tight in the crotch and the shoulder straps didn't feel long enough.

They're decent bibs but I'm returning this pair. Maybe I'll try a larger size but I'm wary about the decals coming off again.

Serious

Snug fit. Smooth chamois with moderate padding. By far the best bib I've used... though I can only compare it to cannondale and desante.

Great value bibs for daily riding

I like these bibs a lot and purchased 3 pairs in total. A few things to keep in mind....

fitting:
- Of course they are not the best bibs in the market, but they are priced extremely well at the discount price.

- With Castelli's annoying low cut design universally applied to the entire product line, Presto is NOT one of them. That said, if you have a belly or simply prefer more support at abdominal area, this is a great choice.

durability:
- I mostly use them for daily commute ride (11miles with 1000 ft elevation) and haven't yet encountered any issues. There are a couple times I rode 30+ miles with them and find the leg gripper to be a bit annoying (itchy)

- I have mine for 4 months now and not having any issues with decal. I always use a fabric bag to wash bibs and NEVER put them in dryer, perhaps that's the reason.

Responded on

I think it's hit or miss on these as far as the lettering. I have two pairs. First one I haven't had any problems. The second pair the lettering started coming off during the first ride and I hadn't washed them yet. I was able to peal all the letters off with VERY little effort.

Not a Fan

Bought these for a good price on Chainlove. Thought they might be worth it. Not so. If you've never had good bibs, then they'll probably be fine. Poor material, itchy, and poor decal quality. Was hoping I'd like them, they were a good price. Fit is good and chamois is decent however, maybe go up a size from normal. I'm 6 ft, 175 lbs. XL seemed to fit well.

Responded on

Agreed on the quality of the decals. I was surprised to - during a long ride yesterday - look down at the "Castelli" on the legs to find that they were peeling off. It was as if being in the sun made the letters curl up and lift from the fabric!

Responded on

Ditto on the decals. I usually wear a large and sized up for Castelli. I found that evening with one size larger, the bibs were a bit too small

4 5

Check sizing..Good quality regardless of decal

I don't really know about sizing up in these. I am 5'11" around 186 and went with the XL based other reviews and specs. I wish I had went with the large. Compression is key as far as blood flow and performance and overly tight is GOOD! They will stretch out when riding which is why I say go with your normal size. I am going to keep the XL, but will not be wearing them on long rides.

5 5

Great Value Bib

I am 6'2" 165 with a 32 inch inseam. Seems like all Castelli bibs fit me perfectly in size XL. This one is no different. Great bib and chamois.

5 5

Couldn't be happier!

I'm 6' 205lbs with a 32" waist. I ordered the XL bibs and they felt a bit tight putting them on but once I got on the bike they felt perfect. Half way through my first ride I couldn't even tell I was wearing them. The chamois is very comfortable. I have no problem recommending these bibs.

5 5

Great Shorts - Don't know why they are getting such poor reviews.

Until this point I had only ever worn shorts. Been hearing the hype for ever about bibs from a friend so I decided to buy some. I had only every worn Pearl Izumi shorts, but I had been using Castelli jerseys for a few years and loved them so I though I would try their bibs. I bought two pair of the Presto and two pair of the Endurance Bibs. The biggest thing I have to say about these is the chamois is so much better than the Pearl Izumi Elite In-R-Cool shorts I had been using. I had a few sores from my old shorts and as soon as I got on the bike with the Castelli Prestos I did not feel any pain the whole 30 mi ride. Heck after the first 10 minutes I was trying to remember what all colors they had so I could order some more and just what I should say in my review.

The next day I tried out the Endurance and they are just as comfortable. Which I guess says something to how good the Kiss3 chamois is because I thought they both felt great. I rode 55 mi on the Endurance and had no pain. I was sold.

As for all the negative reviews about quality and decals coming off. I have washed them once and let them air dry and didn't see any wear on the logo or lettering. But as much as I like these for the styling I care more about how they feel when riding. I am not usually that concerned with how I look 30 miles into a ride. Even if the lettering comes off, just peel it off and they still look really stylish to me. And if somebody wants to know what brand I am wearing they can still read it plastered all over my Castelli jersey.
