Description

Better weather protection in the winter means faster riding in the spring.

On cold days, keeping out the wind isnt half the battle, it can be the battle. But once you're protected from the wind, the cold doesn't seem nearly so. The Castelli Polare Bib Tights feature front panels cut from Windstopper X-Fast, which offers superior wind protection to keep both cold air and water out of the tights. The rear half of the tights use Thermoflex polyester for great warmth with minimal bulk; Thermoflex is a very breathable fabric with excellent wicking properties to keep you from overheating.

The Polare Bib Tights include Castelli's excellent KISS3 pad to help keep bulk to a minimum. It features an anatomic shape to improve how well the pad conforms to your body and ultimately increase your comfort. Unlike most pads, the KISS3 pad features a continuously variable thickness, eliminating the odd sensation of thick here, thin there, that can come with a dual-density pad. The brushed microfiber cover cuts down on chafing and features a bacteriostatic treatment to reduce the chance for saddle sores.

Flat-lock stitching ensures your comfort while reflective zippers allow easy on/off and serve to increase your visibility to nearby drivers.

The Castelli Polare Bib Tights come in Black only and in six sizes from Small through XXX-Large.

  • Front face is WindStopper X-Fast to block the wind, repel moisture, and keep your knees warm
  • Back face is Thermoflex, which traps heat and wicks moisture to keep you dry and warm
  • KISS3 chamois ensures your most important contact point stays comfortable
  • Reflective ankle zippers show up in headlights and make getting the bibs on and off easier

Castelli Flair

I have to say that these are the best Bib Tights I have owned in the last 25 years!
I am small and the fit is perfect with no excess material. They are warm for me down to 30f. These are very well made and the attention to detail is great, as is usual with Castelli products.

Typical Castelli - better as you ride

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Full disclaimer - I love Castelli gear. The Polare Bib Tights are consistent Castelli: they have a snug "Euro" fit but well-thought-out design. The ankle zippers are surprisingly tight to zip, but once I was on the bike I didn't notice anymore. Similarly, I initially felt the back panels were a bit chilly (as described - it's not wind-blocking on the back), but once I warmed up the fabric provides exactly the right amount of ventilation. Very wam & comfortable on a couple of rides in the 20-degree range.

I have had them out in 34 degrees Fahrenheit and was very comfortable. Started becoming a bit too warm when the temp got to around 42 degrees. They are definitely made for very cold weather.

Cold weather beaters

If it's cold- less than 40 degrees and that north wind is coming in and the snow cloud is on the horizon and you have maybe a few hours before the blizzard-- ahhh. These manage that. The wind panels are great. No wind. The fit is tight but normal for me- 6 ft, 185 and I wear the XL. They don't stretch much becuase of the wind panels in the wind prone areas. Nicely made. Good winter bib tights. Even below 30, with the wind blowing the wind chill to near 20 and these tights keep you warm. Outstanding.

Just a little size comment, 6'1.5", 170lb, I ordered the XL and while wearable, it's definitely a size too large maybe two sizes large. It actually has loose fabric around area where love handles would be on less fit people LOL, and around the knees. However the shoulder straps in XL are perfect for me. Leg length is fine, maybe 1/2" longer than necessary. Doing it again I'd go for a L as a compromise between the best fit for torso and legs, which would be a medium, and the best fit for height which is probably XL. I don't know why manufacturers of cycling clothes do this, we're generally a fit bunch, I find with jerseys in particular they always build in room for a gut.

min 0°C to max 8°C (32°F-47°F). These are called their polar bibs so I'm guessing they are the warmest.

Yes. cold . . . The windtex is marvelous and you do not feel the wind or cold. These rock the cold. They work well far below 32.
