Complete comfort.

Sometimes simple things are the best things. The knickers in this case, are a great design, and they offer versatility for those trans-seasonal days on the bike. The Castelli Palmares Women's Knickers are long enough to protect your knees in cool weather, but light enough to be worn when the days are getting warmer and longer. The fit and look are classic Castelli, and the pad is great for short and long rides alike.

The knickers are constructed from Softflex RS fabric. It's a synthetic fabric that offers a cotton-like feel and excellent stretch -- comfy enough that you might think of putting them on after a workout. While the comfort might be alluring enough for general purpose wear, the six-panel design has been cut to stretch and move with you on the bike. The seams are joined with flat-lock stitching as to not rub or chafe as you spin in circles, mile after mile.

At the top, your comfort is assured with a 2.5cm-wide Softlex waistband. The band is soft and stretchy and has no elastic. Rather than feeling like you're being squeezed in the wrong places, you'll feel like you're being hugged instead. At the bottom of the legs, the hem should sit atop your calves, and a silicone gripper will keep it there. Just above the calves are reflective tabs for a little unobtrusive safety.

When you pull on these knickers, you'll sit atop the KISS3 donna seat pad. It's smaller and a bit wider than the men's pad; designed for female dimensions down there. It's a one-piece stretch pad with differing densities so you've got protection where you need it and don't have material in your way where you don't.

The Castelli Palmares Women's Knickers are Black. There is a White screened pattern on the backside panel. Sizes run from X-Small to X-Large.

  • SoftFlex RS gives you mobility and stretch but feels like cotton to the touch
  • Kiss3 Donna women's-specific seat pad gives you lasting comfort even on long rides
  • Flat lock stitching gives you a more aerodynamic shape and less chafing
  • Reflective tabs help cars see you after dark

More women's bottoms please!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

As a Product Manager myself, I hope other cycling Product Managers read this! Loved these, yes the pad is thick - prob needs to be thicker in some areas and cut smaller as diapers are no fun. It does wick well. I love the feel of the fabric and the fact that they don't cut off circulation at the waist or calves. I prefer thicker opening-cuffs so there's no sausaging of the leg! I like bottoms that have light design lines that minimize the size of the bum, yet the fabric did a good job supporting everything. Wear them a lot on 25-100 mile rides and no showing thru - hopefully Castelli verifies sun shine angles / crack reveal in all their bottoms.

Great Chamois.

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got these pants for fall riding, and I don't normally wear pants because the chamois' are usually to bulky and feel like a diaper (you know the feeling). But these have a great chamois that isn't oversized, but still gives you plenty of padding for longer rides. I got a small (5'6" 135) and they fit fine, but I could have sized up to a Med and still been ok.

Sizing is off for Castelli...weird fit.

Not really a fan of these. I always wear a size small in Castelli. I tried them on in a small in my LBS and they were so tight I thought I may rip them when I pulled them over my rear! So, I ordered them here in a medium...especially after reading the reviews to size up in these particular knickers. The medium was just plain weird. I practically had to pull them up to just under my breasts to have the crotch fit properly and I am 5' 7" tall and long waisted! Then obviously gravity made the waist gradually creep down leaving me with a sagging crotch and a shelf of padding sticking out on my bottom...not a good look. I never even rode with them. This was while I was getting READY to go on a ride. I was so annoyed with them, I took them off and put on my Castelli shorts instead. Also note, the chamois is supposedly the same as my Castelli shorts; however, it does NOT feel the same. It feels very diaper-like compared to the shorts.

Not impressed

The size small was extremely tight, but the length was right on. I am 5'3" and 125lbs. I only tried them on with underwear on, but you could see the underwear through the knickers. I was concerned it would not be long before they were worn to the point that I was showing the infamous crack during a ride.

The chamois is wide, thick and dense in the rear, but less so in the front. I ride about 5 days a week, a 1-3 hours each day and for me the chamois felt more like a diaper, much too thick.

Long story short, I'm not hard to please, but I had to send these back. They just did not fit well and given the chamois, I didn't think a size larger would help.

Love these knickers

Wore these on long days cycling in Nova Scotia. Wide non-binding stretchy waistband makes them extremely comfortable and thick dense shammy is great for long days in the saddle. I highly recommend these knickers.
