Wind will suck the heat right out of your bones faster than you can say "I'm cold", so a windproof layer like the Castelli Gabba Long Sleeve Women's Jersey is essential when things start getting crisp and breezy. The Gabba's Windstopper X-Lite fabric isn't just wind resistant, it's fully windproof, and is also finished with a DWR water-repellent coating, so the elements won't turn your ride into a freezing cold sufferfest.

Sweat can be a problem on cold days too, so Castelli outfitted the Gabba with NanoFlex underarm panels, which improve ventilation and moisture transfer while simultaneously allowing easier arm movement. The form-following race fit, high collar, and dropped hem provide full coverage and sleek aerodynamics, and reflective details help you pop against early morning and late evening backgrounds.

What do you think about this product?

    Have questions about this product?

    Love this thing...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

Castelli is my favorite and this jersey is no exception. Great quality, beautiful, fits great, and looks good on. I'm 5'5", 115 lbs, 35" bust and 25" waist. The small fit perfectly. The jersey is warmer than a typical jersey but not as heavy as a jacket. It's a nicely in the middle. I really love it and priced as it is now, I don't think it can be beat.

What the "flap" is up with this jacket?

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

Love the feel and look of the material (especially the look of the front), but what's up with the huge flap of extra loose material that hangs down on the backside area below the jacket? I really wish the jacket didn't have what appears as a skirt or dress that is not flattering along the buttocks. It is too long and loose and I can just imagine it flapping in the wind down a hill!?!? Maybe better for women with curvy larger butts? Wish It had a zipper or something to take it off/on. I know it's to keep wind and wet road conditions off your buttocks, but this looks ridiculous! Not sure if I plan to keep it yet?

What the "flap" is up with this jacket?

The size you ordered might have been too large for you. Based on the your photo, the jersey is draping on you, rather than fitting to your body -- the back is loose, and there is a gap between your hip and the hemline. I had the same issue with the medium, and the flap billowed out like a skirt. The small fits like a glove, with the flap contouring my bum so perfectly it's like it was tailored for me. And my behind is on the small side. For reference, my measurements are 34" bust, 27" waist, 36.5" hip.

    Great jersey/jacket

I have been wearing this jersey this fall mostly on 40 degree to 45 degree days with lots of wind. I wear a light base layer. It is super comfortable, the fabric is soft inside and not stiff at all and it keeps me warm. On the hills I unzip the vents and the front and don't get too hot. On the downhills, I just zip back up; it's easy to do while riding.

    A must have

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

Filling the gap between jersey and jacket, Gabba is a must have piece that you probably didn't know you needed. It's soft, jersey-like fabric remains very breathable while repelling water and wind. Ventilation zippers on the front help you regulate temperature when you need more air flow during a hard effort or while climbing. The tail can be tucked under or pulled down to protect your chamois from spray when the roads are wet. I've paired it with a sleeveless base layer in the fall and then a heavier long sleeve in winter and have found it to be comfortable. The only downside I've found is that the sleeves are a little short on the XS which isn't an issue I usually come across with clothing. This isn't too much of an issue as gloves make up the difference.

    A must have

My gf is 5'6" and about 135. Based on that, what size should I get her? Looks like from other posts, she could be a medium?
I have one myself and love it! I am 5'8" and 138 lbs and wear a S, but I think the women sizing may be different.
    Thank you!

Perfect Jersey for Cold and Rain

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

Wore this jersey 3 days through cold Vermont and New Hampshire. It was awesome. Fit was spot on with my usual size. In fact, I like the jersey fit. The convertible jacket runs small and for that I sized up.

    Gave this as a gift.

This jacket is wonderful. I wear it during the colder rides which makes it a lot more tolerable. It is the perfect length. I would definitely recommend this to those cool weather riders.

      The perfect cold weather jersey

      It's a unicorn.

For some background, I hate being cold, and I get cold really easily. So, by default, riding in the cold hasn't been my favorite activity. I'm usually the one spending a half hour layering various baselayers, jerseys, and jackets in an attempt to stay warm, and then complaining about being cold halfway through the ride. Not so with the Gabba. Less prep time sorting out layers, super streamlined fit, and it actually keeps me warm.

This little jersey holds its own in some pretty frigid temperatures without being any bulkier than your standard long-sleeve jersey. It's perfect as a standalone outer layer paired with a summer baselayer and thermal bibtights (and the accompanying hand/foot/head/neck covers) down to well below freezing, and I have no doubt it will hold its own down to the low 20's or so with a light long-sleeved baselayer. Even with some wind (and theoretically rain, but I haven't had to test that yet).

On sizing, Castelli is definitely euro fit, but runs very true to the sizing charts and in line with the other euro-sized kits I've worn. If you're used to American sizing, you'll probably need to size up to get a similar fit.

To sum it up, if you live in a cold climate, you need a Gabba. It's a little pricey, but so worth every penny of that investment.

      The perfect cold weather jersey

      Hi Ariadne,

I have the black version, mostly b/c I couldn't decide which color to get and that was neutral. The violet is an awesome color - in person, it seems a little lighter/brighter than it shows up on the computer screen, but not bright/fluoro. The reflective piping across the top of the pockets and along the hem also stands out really well and helps counter the lack of super brightness (even on the black).

      Hope that helps!

      Runs very small

I can't speak to how this jacket performs on the bike because it's much too small and I'm a pretty reliable medium.

      Castelli Gabba Women's Jacket

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this jacket for my aunt who is an avid cyclist, and she loved it. She said the jacket was beautiful and the quality was top notch. If I had to guess she's about 5'9 and 130 lbs, I bought her a medium to be on the safe side since it said race fit, which usually means they run small. I would say usually she's probably in between a small and medium top.

      wow, pure and simple

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: s

I live in NYC, and I ride about 100miles /week. I'm about 120 Lb for 5'2 and bought a S. Actually, I bought an M initially but returned it for a smaller size. sleeves are a tiny bit long for my arm length, but definitely not a deal breaker. It's fairly windy now (March/April), but the jersey keeps me warm enough with a base layer underneath. Great pocket space at the back. Usually store food and spare tube + kit. High quality jersey that you would definitely want to add to your kit:)

      The Best!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

The Castelli Gabba Jersey just might be the greatest single piece of cycling kit you'll ever owned. Is it a jersey? Not really.....is it a jacket? That doesn't quite fit either. Does it fit tight? Well yes, it's Castelli so it fits very tight. But ultimately this thing is just awesome!

This is seriously the most versatile jersey/jacket/weather killer extraordinaire you'll ever own. Layer up with a thicker baselayer, and this has you covered from the wind and rain/snow down to temps of about 25-39. Do a light base-layer or jersey under and you're golden 30-50. Keeps the wind and rain out, and is warm but still breathes well with the help of two front zippered vents.

Any amount of rain beads right off, and it's virtually impenetrable from the wind. This thing is AWESOME! You'll look damn good too!

      You need this jersey!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is the best, most versatile piece of cycling clothing I own. It's as good as all the reviews say it is. Blocks the wind, repels the rain. Very well made and well fitted. I wouldn't change a single thing about it! I'm 5'5", 107 lbs and wear an XS.

Perfect for Windy & Drizzly Days

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

LOVE this jersey. Glad Castelli finally came out with the Gabba for women.

Stayed warm and dry on a day with 15mph wind gusts and sporadic drizzle. Fits well. Follow the size chart—I am inbetween the Large & XLarge around the chest, and the Large fits perfectly (even with a long-sleeve wool base layer underneath). This is meant to be form-fitting. If you want a looser fit size up.

      LOVE LOVE LOVE this item!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small

It's just what I had hoped for - very lightweight, very flexible and stops the wind. I use this as a jacket since there's no soft, fleece like material on the inside. The extended lower back is a bonus as well as the high collar. REALLY keeps you warm. I wear this with a thin base layer and a thin L/S jersey in weather in the low 40's. Couldn't be more pleased. As usual for Castelli, I ordered a size up from my normal size. Oh, and I didn't find it to be too tight in the chest.

Is Windstopper X-Lite the same as Windstopper X-Lite Plus?

Yes, Looks like "Plus" was left out of the description. Here's a link with some cool info about Castelli's tech fabrics!
