Description

The empress's new shorts.

The big story of what gets us so enthused about Castelli's Body Paint 2.0 Women's Shorts is what they don't have — namely, seams. Rather than playing Frankenstein with multiple panels of different materials in different spots, Castelli uses a single, wrap-around piece of fabric that itself changes over the body of the shorts, making for a fit that all-but disappears in the saddle.

The legs benefit from a dimpled, aerodynamic finish, strategic areas are built to promote breathability and wicking, and the entire, single-piece body provides gentle compression to reduce fatigue caused by road noise. The two spots where Castelli did opt for stitching make sense and seem — for now, at least — unavoidable: the waistband and chamois attachment points.

The waistband is a swathe of keep-the-shorts-up material, which complements the lie-flat, integrated leg bands for a secure fit. The chamois is Castelli's Progetto X2 Air insert, which incorporates perforations and antimicrobial properties throughout its multi-density padding to protect against bumps in the road, moisture build-up, and bacteria.

  • Single piece construction for minimal seams
  • Compressive material with aerodynamic and breathable properties
  • Includes Castelli's peloton-grade Progetto X2 Air chamois

Disappointing

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love the chamois and overall fit of these shorts. I'm 5'1" and 107 and small fits well. I have the same problem as another reviewer, however, in that the bottom edge of the legs are now permanently curled up. This was after a few wearings and washings. Can't find a solution and though the shorts are wearable, they are rather unattractive and it's disappointing in a short that is $200.

GREAT SHORTS, BUT?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are wonderful, super high quality shorts. The chamois padding is extra generous and has lasted through many washings. I have not had a problem with chamois edge curling as mentioned in another review. I have however found the 5 cm wide band (with Castelli writing) starts to curl up along the bottom edge a bit (doesn't lay flat to leg). But this is again, after many washings.

The Cadillac of biking shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have loved every ride I've been on since I got these shorts! They aren't too tight on my thighs at the bottom of the shorts and they have the BEST chamois padding. I do admit it makes me feel like I'm wearing a diaper when I'm not in the saddle, but it's worth it. I definitely wear these for my long 2hr+ rides.

This is the second pair of body paint 2.0...

This is the second pair of body paint 2.0 shorts I have tried. Both of them had the same defect. THe front edge of the chamois is rolling up/doubling over. I thought the first pair was just a fluke, but didn't even try on the new ones, they came straight out of the bag like this. Has anyone else had this issue. I really want to like these, but not willing to fight w the chamois. Hate to order a third pair only to find its just how they are made?

I'm not quite sure if I'm answering your question correctly but here's my thought...

I tried to upload a picture of my Castelli body paint chamois so you can compare with the ones you've gotten. I do have a general lump that forms towards the front of the chamois when it lays flat. However since the shorts are spandex, when I put them on they stretch to fit the chamois perfectly. So the bump completely goes away and I am comfy as I ride- no ridges felt.
I hope that helps.

I ordered a pair of these shorts and was worried about the issues you ran into with the chamois rolling - and when you lay them out they do have a strange "bump". However, just came back from several hours riding and I have to say they were great - no issues once on - great fit and great leg support. The chamois is a bit bulky off the bike, but no rolling and certainly very comfortable on the bike. I hope they work out for you!

Worth every penny

SO comfortable! Great compression, excellent fit, top-of-the line breathability...I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Size small was a good fit (5'7", 120#), comparable to Castelli windstopper tights in terms of sizing.
