Pardon my noob question, but other than a couple ounces difference, what makes these poles better than the Outdoor Products trekking poles you'd find at Wal mart?

Responded on

The main difference is durability. Higher end materials last longer. Even if both a high and low end set of poles are aluminum, They will be of different alloys.

Hi Frank - for these, it is largely the durability like Pat mentions. Poles are notorious for having issues with the locking mechanism - even nice poles. I'd be pretty wary of cheap trekking poles if you are in a situation where a busted pole would be a problem. There are also just a bunch of small thoughtful details that you don't get with the bargain brands (the angle of the pole is set correctly when you hold the grip tightly, the tips can be replaced if they wear down and there is a lifetime guarantee both from the manufacturer and from Backcountry.com).

The twist lock holds up really well. I have not had it loosen on its own at all thus far

Is it 10 oz for the pair or 10 oz each?
