Splitting kindling for the wood stove is not the time to wear your ski shell, unless you like to accessorize with sap and dirt on the slopes. The Carhartt Women's Sandstone Mock-Neck Sherpa Lined Vest provides warmth, mobility, and a tough exterior to handle all sorts of outdoor chores. Carhartt's famous 12-ounce washed cotton duck feels soft and wears like iron, for years of wood-toting, snowblower-starting protection. Meanwhile, the sherpa fleece lining and drop tail keep you warm and cover your butt.
Bottom Line: Save your ski shell and get this Carhartt vest dirty instead.
I am "blessed" with DD on top. With Carhartt, what fits my hips is very tight in the chest area. I easily wear large in most manufacturers. Size 2XL in Carhartt fit like"compression" garments around my chest - that includes this vest. My husband, who has a 31" waist, has to squeeze into 32" Carhartts - especially the overalls. Our story - we have never found a Carhartt garment that runs large. Our experience is they run 1-2 sizes small.
When making the decision to volunteer for disaster recovery during retirement, I was thrilled Carhartt carried women's clothing. My experience is it does not fit well.

Wish I would have bought this vest years ago! It is toasty warm, cuts wind very well---just returned from a crabbing trip on the Oregon coast, 50 mph winds, sideways wind, but I stayed nice and warm. I really like the longer cut in the back so it covers your hiney and your crack when you are bending over pulling in crab pots! The fleece is soft on your chin which is extra nice when zipping up and tucking your face down. Lots of storage. Plus you can easily fit a big hoodie underneath comfortably. I actually purchased the Large and had to return for a Medium. I am 5'7'', 155 pounds and usually always wear Large, however, Carharrt does run a bit bigger.
Bought this vest for working with horses. So far it is everything I hoped... tough enough, warm enough, and a great piece of equipment for getting some dirty jobs done!
I love this vest. It is truly flattering, warm, tough, and real. I wear it for outdoor chores, for hiking, shopping, and over my jammies and flannel robe on chilly evenings at home. My daughter saw it on me and had to have one, too. The pockets are great, roomy, placed well, and cozy. There is something archetypal about this vest. Could be for women of any century.
I don't know about a minimum chest measurement for it, but I went to Carhartt's site to get their sizing chart. Hope that helps:XS = Size 0-2, S = Size 4-6, M = Size 8-10, L = Size 12-14, XL = Size 16-18
After reading some reviews I wasn't sure that this vest would work for me. I was particularly worried about it being "stiff". The truth is, it is stiff. However, I have spent every waking moment in it since it arrived. This is an instant favorite for me. I'm buying a second one so I never run out.
I'm really active physically. Large garden, wilderness skills, mountain biking, handy-woman stuff. I wear everything out. I don't think that'll be possible with this vest. It's built like a tank. Maybe I would have liked one more pocket, but it's fine with the five it has and the interior pockets are roomy and accessible.
