Go from geezer to stud-muffin in the Carhartt Sandstone Active Jac.

Lose the grandpa coat and get down to business in the thermal-lined Carhartt Men's Sandstone Active Jac. This hooded jacket is every bit as rough and tough as your old work coat but has an up-to-date look that won't inspire honks from Lincoln Town Cars. Made from cotton sandstone duck fabric, the Sandstone Active jacket won't wear and tear for years to come. A relaxed fit provides a range of motion you couldn't get from your old denim straitjacket.

Awesome Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have had two of these and they are truly great work jackets. I have had them for 5 years but it wasn't until I spent the winter bundled in one of these as a meter reader/water crewman that I really got to test it out. They are super warm, very durable, stands up to wind well, and waterproofs really well. While too heavy personally for most outdoors activities this is the only work jacket for me.

Love it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Really warm jacket. Doesn't look as "redneck as you think." Have had mine for a year no problems quality jacket.

Best Jacket Ever Made

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My college roommate let me use this jacket in 2003. He found it in his car at the time and no one claimed it so he gave it to me. It was already worn out in the cuffs and was dirty but who cares, its a Carhartt. I have literally used this jacket for 10 years now and the zipper caught last week causing teeth to rip out. I was super bummed because it was my old "Go Too". I recently just picked up the Sandstone Ridge Coat, and hope it gets 10+ years of use. Nothing last that long anymore! I barely get 2 seasons out of a $600 ski jacket. Honestly, my carhartt was used many days on the slope, kinda had that redneck/jean skier look or the "Steamboat Tuxedo." BUY THIS JACKET!!!

Solid jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

Gave this jacket to my father for Christmas this year - and he loves it. A true Carhartt jacket, it's extremely durable and rugged, while having the utility of a great winter coat - very warm. Fits true to size.

Great Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he is thrilled with it. He had a tan one previously that lasted him for years, so I bought him a black one this time. It fits him comfortably, is very warm and he wears it every day and loves it!

Great Jacket

Strong cold weather work jacket!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My father is a mechanic that works outside in cold weather all day. This jacket keeps him warm through Pennsylvania winters. Enough said!!

He's about 6'2" and he wears an XL. The arms fit him perfectly and the body is cut for extra layering. He usually wears a hoodie inside and throws on the jacket for outside work. The body is spacious so he has plenty of room for that extra layer or two when it's really cold. The jacket also takes the oil, gas and dirt he works in all day without problem. The material is very durable for less tearing which is important when you're elbow deep in an engine all day.

Heavily endorsed by DAD!

Too short

They need to make sizes for big and tall. I had to different family members try this jacket on to try to find it a home and the sleeves were too short for both. Normally I love carhartt apparel very durable.

Great jacket but sleeves are too short

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This jacket is super warm and has all of the quality that you would expect from a Carhartt product. I was unfortunately not able to find a size that worked for me. I am a large in most jackets and the large in this jacket fit my torso great but the sleeves were too short.

Great everyday jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had this jacket for a few months now and it's still my favorite jacket. I use it as a commuting, everyday jacket. It has the best pockets - they are roomy and in the perfect spot. If you're looking for a warm, burly, good looking jacket, this is it!

I'm 6'4" tall, 200 lbs. and I'm wearing a XL. The length is perfect, arms just long enough to put my hands inside when it's chilly. It's still fairly bulky in the stomach though. This would fit someone with a BIG belly very well.

Great for college student

We got this for our college student son for Christmas. We had such a mild winter here in Utah that I can't really say it's been tested in the cold, but he has liked the jacket and found it comfortable enough to wear all over the place. There's nothing flimsy about it, so it should last for a long time.

how warm is this compared to a thin down hoodie?

Responded on

There are so many variables to compare them but this jacket is actually very warm and blocks the wind well.

Does anyone know where I can get this color...

Does anyone know where I can get this color jacket but with the "white furry"(not sure of the proper name) lining? My stepson is dying for one but wants that specific lining because of his job....

Responded on

I think you are talking about the sherpa lined jacket

Pure Brilliance

I have had one of these jackets for 8 years running. One jacket for 8 years. I have known other jackets that have lasted as long as this one, but they were fancy $300+ jackets only worn while coaching the new racers out on the mountain. Meanwhile, this one is a pure workhorse.

Four of most of those years, I wore it everyday at the local ski hill training from first chair to last run and on my evening work shift lugging gates, fencing, dead trees, timing wire, running sleds and and moving snowguns. Sure, the color has faded, it has some wear in the shoulders and a few grease stains, but no tears, stitching is still rock solid and just as warm as the day I bought it.

Not waterproof by any means. I have worn this jacket in the rain many times, and I have to say, it is a sponge. But it usually provides enough of a barrier to keep you dry long enough to get stuff done.

Long story short, its your all-purpose tool in your jacket toolbox. You can't go wrong owning one of these.

Can't Go Wrong

I've had one of these for a long time and it is still probably one of my warmest jackets. It may not be waterproof but it can do everything else.

What is the difference in the codes?...

What is the difference in the codes? Like J104 or J131 for example.

Responded on

Different codes are for different jackets - J104 is for a Carhartt Workshield Vented Jacket and the J131 is for the Carhartt Duck Active Jacket.

nice

i really love his jacket, i makes me feel so good, i really like wearing this to work, because i can leave it in my car, then when i come out in negative degree weather i put i on and it gets me warm before my car even gets turned on.

great Jacket!

I bought three of these Jackets for my brothers and they love them, and the best part is that they're not overly expensive! and they keep you warm no matter what you're doing... the only downside is that they're not waterproof. but they still get the job done on a cold winer's day.

Carhartt: Heart and Soul

Whether racing by the barbed-wire fence on the four-wheeler or reaching through the fence to feed, the Carhartt performs like a champ, resisting and keeping you warm, too. It's the workhorse of the jacket world!
