And if your favorite pants are already the Carpenters, well, hopefully civilization will survive the ensuing nuclear explosion.

If your favorite pair of jeans were to get in a fight with the Carhartt Loose-Fit Canvas Carpenter Denim Pants, the Carpenters wouldn’t break a sweat as they single-leggedly slashed and tore those weak-kneed jeans into something resembling what an ‘80s-she-metal band would wear. As the name implies, the Canvas Carpenters come with a looser fit in the seat and thighs for a relaxed feel. But their easy-going look masks a rough, tough, and downright-mean disposition towards anything that stands between them and a job well done. And in addition to their plethora of pockets, these durable work pants also come with dual hammer loops so they can tote tools on both legs as a symbol of their authority over shoddily made imitators.

    Lighter work pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 38

The material here is lighter than usual Carhartts, but are still durable. I use these a lot when doing ranch work, or more recently, building large rock retaining walls. It's a simple pair of pants, they're comfortable and have some generous cut to the legs. I've always found Carhartts to run a size or two smaller than other pairs. Your mileage may vary.

Favorite of the Carhartt pant series.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

This is the second pair of Carhartt Carpenter Denim Pants I have purchased through Backcountry. Very happy with the product. I work in a Brewery and Distillery and the pants are comfortable while working in an array of adverse conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, etc). These are not fast drying pants, if you work in really wet conditions, but for mildly wet work they are perfect.

Hubby loves his Carhartt Canvas Denim!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

My husband is the local handy-man and puts all work pants through the wringer. The Carhartt Loose-fit Canvas Carpenter Denim Pant are by far his favorite because they withstand a lot of wear and tear and they're extremely comfortable to work in. The denim is definitely thicker than average but it's got elasticity to the material so it makes for ease of high motion and movement. He's 5' 11" and 190 lbs, traditionally wears a 34 waist & 32 inseam and the 34 fit great. The 32 inseam is also dead on. He purchased a total of three Carhartt Loos-fit Cangas Carpenter Denim Pant pairs and they all fit the same. He recommends these for any guy but highly recommends them especially for his fellow handy-men :)

    Hubby luvs these pants

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Bought these for my husband and he wears them everyday. They can be worn for the workday, bucking up wood on weekends, or out to the pub. Once washed they are softer and the waistband stretches a little. Great earth tone colors. He is 5'6", 145 lbs and I ordered the 30x30 and they were initially tight on the waist but now fit great

    Inconsistent sizing

These pants are great and I wish they fit me better but I had to return them. I ordered the same size that I always were in pants and they just did not fit right. I have found that Carhartts fit very differently even if they are the exact same size.

      great pants

i can usually get away wearing a 34 size pant, but these i had to go one up and get the 36...a bit of a hit to my ego, but the fit is great, the fabric is comfortable. great work or casual pants. wear them hiking, working, or drinking!

        Almost Pass

If you're a jeans guy that has to pass for a Dockers dude occasionally, these almost do it. I travel a lot and wear them on the plane so I look just that little bit dressier than jeans when I get where I'm going. As others have said, they won't last like the double-knee classics, but they are very comfortable to wear (I'm a medium-size big guy 6'2" 220) and fit me well.

I'm planning to buy more and replace the blue jeans for all my traveling.

good pants, but seem to fit differently

I like these pants, but not as much as my other pairs of carhartts (which are more or less the only pants I wear). They seem to fit a little tighter through the hips until it hits about mid thigh. This may be due to the jean-style pocket cut, rather than the traditional carhartt slash pocket we know and love. They're a pretty good pair of nicer looking pants, not as many rivets as the other styles, so you can dress them up a bit more. In short, a good, well-made pair of pants, just a funky fit.

Do Carhartt pants tend to run true to size?...

Do Carhartt pants tend to run true to size? My waist measures 31" and can't decide whether or not I should go with a 31x30 or 32x30. Thanks.
