That's mainly because the jacket doesn't use down insulation, except sturdy synthetic that stays warm when wet. But if it did use down, the Gilliam's durable Cordura shell should stay strong for seasons on end without a tear. Carhartt treated the shell with Rain Defender to shed rainfall and snowflakes, so you can continue wearing it when moisture starts to drop.
