Winter base miles. We almost don't like to talk about them, but riding is still riding. After all, the open road, no matter how cold, is still better than lounging around the house getting fat off of hot cocoa. So, when you're ready to tell Old Man Winter that you're not going to cave to low temps, slip on the Capo SC-12 Leggero S Jacket and hit the road.

Capo's SC-12 Leggero S jacket falls under what it calls its Super Corsa Series. Designed to don the bodies of the cycling elite, Super Corsa places an emphasis on compression, comfort, materials, and above all, warmth. So, towing this line, the SC-12 was constructed from a blend of Capo's fabrics -- Element-4 and Thermo Roubaix. Starting with Element-4, this material strikes the ideal balance between insulation and breathability. Operating as a membrane between the skin and the elements, the fabric regulates the internal temperature of the jersey by releasing excess heat between the material and the skin. But mainly, this system promotes warmth by keeping you dry. Don't believe us? Time for an experiment. Blow over the top of your hand. Now, wet your skin and blow again. Colder right? That's why the fabric's composition favors a lightweight, all-way stretch design over bulky, fleecy fabrics. Element-4 is not only wind-resistant, but Capo made sure that it was water-resistant, as well. Match that with a slim cut from hem to hem, and there's not a chance that rain or snow is getting in.

And while staving off icy winds is integral in protection from the elements, a majority of the SC-12's insulation warmth is derived from the Thermo Roubaix fabric. This material features a high interior loft that assists in the moisture management duties of the jacket, while its hollow-core microfiber composition breathes heavily to maintain a consistent thermo-regulation.

In addition to prepping for the elements, the SC-12 has been designed to be highly malleable in order to compliment the cycling-specific flexibility of the jacket's cut. Capo made the SC-12 with a lengthened rear hem, a multiple panel construction, and pre-shaped sleeves. The idea was to compliment the body in motion, and by doing so, reducing any possibility of abrasion along the way. For on-the-fly ventilation, the SC-12 comes equipped with a full-length front zipper.

The Capo SC-12 Leggero S Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black and White. Please note that Capo suggests that the SC-12 Leggero achieves the best results between 45 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit. If you need a jacket that offers a similar fit for a lower climate range, please check out the SC-12 Softshell Jacket.

Capo SC12 Jacket

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

This jacket is quite nice. Capo makes some quality stuff. The arm length is long, but the waist length seems short to me. I got a Medium sized jacket and I'm only 5'5", but I feel like the jacket keeps riding up my back and I'm always pulling it back down. maybe it's just me though. According to the size chart I should be wearing a Small size, but the waist length on that seems short too. I may have to go to a store and try on a bigger size to see how it fits.

What I like:

-Quality of Capo

-It's warm and seems to break the wind pretty well. My arms stay warm with this jacket on those really cold days riding.

-The arm length is nice and I'm able to overlap my gloves and wrists so the cold air doesn't leak into the sleeves.

-Three pockets in the back are great. I have a vest that I don't like wearing anymore because it doesn't have pockets in the back.

-The length seems short even for a short guy.

-The Price, but if you get it on sale it's not bad for a jacket and you get what you pay for. (most of the time anyway)
