Light up the roads.
Capo's new HV series relies on the same proven fit and detailing as the original Padrone collection, but with the addition of the latest in reflective fabric technology. The Padrone HV (high visibility) W Vest stands in as the ideal lightweight protective riding layer, as its paneling was made to remain subtle during the daylight hours, yet become fully illuminated when light hits its surface.
The Padrone vest was constructed from a blend of Capo's latest fabrics: Super Black and P-10 Membranes. Both of these ultra-reflective materials are what contribute to the vest's visible properties, and they were engineered to provide the same controlled stretch, wind- and water repellency, and wicking abilities as the materials they replace. Crushed crystals have been bonded to the membranes' outer layer, which effectively reflect light when it hits the surface. This paneling is what gives the new Padrone its high level of visibility. Both of these materials' compositions favor a lightweight, softshell design over bulky, fleecy fabrics. Additionally, the P-10 panels are lightly perforated, which keeps air freely circulating through the vest. This ventilation system ensures you stay comfortable in the saddle, regardless of your effort levels.
In addition to prepping for the elements, the Padrone has been designed to be highly malleable in order to complement the cycling-specific flexibility of the GS series. Capo made the Padrone with a lengthened rear hem and a multiple panel construction. The idea was to complement the body in motion, and by doing so, reducing any possibility of abrasion along the way.
The vest was finished off with a tall collar and full-length front zipper, as well as three pockets along the lower rear panel. A fourth zippered pocket was added for separating your phone and media devices from the rest of your riding essentials.
The Capo Padrone HV W Vest is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the color Black. Every Padrone is made in Italy.

So, I've had this thing in my "saved items" of my cart for literally a year. Been back and forth on it for a while. So when I got a super deal in my email, I decided to jump on it.
My review on it? It's pretty awesome. It's actually thicker and a bit heavier than I thought it would be (it's not a little, packable vest), but it fits very nicely and doesn't wear heavily. If that's a thing. It has a little bit of a rubberized kind of feel to it from the outside, but definitely fits the profile for a technical cycling garment. It fits fantastically, too, very much in line with another Capo vest I have - I got the small, and I'm about 160, 5'10". And let me tell you - this thing is insanely reflective. I'll occasionally catch a glimpse of it in my walk in closet without any lights on and I swear it's like I left a light on in there somewhere.
Would I pay the full price for it? No, as the "saved items" section of my cart will showcase. But after seeing it in person, I'm glad I made the purchase.
Important for evening riding
- Fit: True to size
This vest is amazing. And I mean amazing. If you ride at night (as I often do after work), and you can afford it, I would go so far as to call this vest essential.
Of course, you use really good front & rear bike lights. And continue to do so. But this vest makes it -impossible- for autos not to see you and see you clearly and understand that you are a cyclist.
PROS: This vest's high-viz fabric is very subtle in person (almost invisible -it just looks grey). But at night the "crushed crystals" light-up under an auto's headlamps. Wow. Other pros: Good looking. Very high quality manufacture from Capo (per usual).
Cons: Price (unless on sale).
Can I give this garment 6 stars?
Absolutely Amazing Vest
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I love vests for the fall and winter. You can add them over short sleeve, long sleeve or thermal jerseys to add flexibility to your cycling kit. Also allows you to adjust your comfort on longer rides with changing conditions, like early morning or late afternoon. Like everything Capo, this is EXTREMELY high quality and extremely well thought out. My favorite vest.
Is this vest EN 1150 certified and if not, is Capo making any efforts to get it certified?
Hey Garth. I called Capo recently because i had the same question and they were not able to provide an answer. I ride brevets (I am guessing you may as well) and was looking for a compliant vest.
I have two questions about this vest:
1) Does it pack down small enough to fit in a jersey pocket?
2) How does the fabric hold up to repeated washing? Do the crushed crystals eventually come off in the wash?
"Crushed crystals have been bonded to the membranes' outer layer, which effectively reflect light when it hits the surface."
How does this fit? Is it snug around the waist? I'm 5'9", 150lbs, 40in chest and 31in waist, should I go for S or M? thanks
