If so-called tough jackets always let you down because you endure harsh, wet, freezing cold on a daily basis, we suggest you put the Canada Goose Men's 3-n-1 Nomad Storm Jacket to the test. The Nomad's component system provides ample protection against any combination of nasty elements, with a fully taped, Teflon coated, waterproof and breathable abrasion-resistant G-Tech shell presiding over a removable, premium duck down insulated quilted liner. An abundance of storage, including fleece lined handwarmer and watertight zippered pockets, makes carrying tools, extra gloves, and electronic accessories a cinch in high wind and driving frozen rain. Canada Goose would tell you to Ask Anyone Who Knows. Well, we know—and we just told you.
Bottom Line: In a burly jacket cage match, the Nomad comes out on top every time.
For the price, this jacket falls short. Just as the others say, there is NO down in the shoulders, causing my shoulders to get very cold, very quickly. I thought that shelling out that kind of money would guarantee me a good jacket.. but I was wrong. The rest of the coat is very warm, and I can't really complain, (although the velcro on the front started tearing apart after about a month of use).
Bottom line, it looks great.. makes me sweat in cold weather, but is ultimately flawed. The shoulders and back of the coat are cut too small, causing these large "cold spots," and for a $600+ coat, that really shouldn't happen.
I'd support a more locally owned place that specializes in warm gear.. and preferably one that doesn't use fox fur on the hood!

Okay, got the Nomad and it is so warm! I can't even believe it. I had purchased the Heli Arctic at first and ended up returning it because, believe it or not, it was too warm! Then I ordered the 3 in 1. It is a lot smaller than the Heli... and I was thinking, when I saw it, is this going to keep me warm??? Well, I tried it on as soon as I got it and it was already cold enough in Chicago, where you didn't even want to be standing outside... So I was out for 45 minutes talking to a neighbor and I was so warm. It didn't even bother me that I was out in such cold weather. When I got in the house and took the jacket off, I was sweating and I rarely sweat! I guess I answered my own question that night about the warmth of the jacket. So the jacket can be work with the down or without. I have tried all three ways and all are very sweet. It is definitely a unisex jacket. I'm pretty short, so it covers me well. I did have to roll up the sleeves but again, I'm 5 ft. 2 in. and with any jacket I get, I find myself rolling up the sleeves. I give this jacket 5 ***** stars. It you live in a very colder climate than Chicago, get the heli, if it isn't that serious, get the Nomad. It's been pretty cold in Chicago and this jacket is just fine. I feel that anything else would be a bit too much and you might find yourself not getting much use out of a heavier jacket. By the way, this is a heavy jacket. Nothing like the Heli, but it is not a typical weight by any stretch of the imagination. Something that most people probably don't think about. Now to write a comment about backcountry. this place is great. I even called them on Thanksgiving to ask a question about my Nomad and someone answered! I felt pretty silly calling on a holiday, but I got my question answered. I love the live chats you can have with a gear head and they really do take the time to answer all of your questions! I recommend backcountry.com when ordering... and they have a great, GREAT return policy to boot. Happy Shopping!
With either jacket you could pretty must go lay out in the snow in Chicago. Looks like one main difference would be the hood where the Expedition is wire braced. Of the two my opinion is the Nomad for more waterproofing and versatility. Though honestly (I live in MN) I think you could probably drop down a level to something not as extreme and save some $$$. I mean one of the reviews on the Expedition says it'll be to warm if it's above 10 degrees out!
I would never belive that I'd give this rating for a CG jacket, but hey, I think they deserve it. I purchased a CG constable parka several years ago. And to my experience, that was the best jacket I'd ever had. It was warm and really comfy. Like putting on a sleeping bag. I somehow managed to sell that one, and last spring I purchased a CG Nomade from BC.com. Excellent service and shop. I live in Oslo, Norway, and they was always online and helpful. Even when the carrier managed to deliver the package to some strangers, and the jacket disapeard. (wonder why) But back to the parka. What I experienced is that it seems to me that this parka has way to little down inside. When I wear this, I start to get cold in just a few minutes on my shoulders. And when I touch my shoulders, there is very little down there. So compared to my first CG I am really disappointed. It should feel cold now, it is only like 5-10 below zero now, how will it be when it really starts to get cold here? But all in all, it is really good quality on everything, but I think the insulation was poor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend CG, but maybe not the Nomad.
I have non professional parka (Colins). I try to find professional and warm, waterproof, down does not slip on shoulders.. I stop at Canada Goose. And buy Nomad. But now I've test it in slow cold weather. And... I have my shoulders in cold! Waterproof - yes! 5***** Warm (except for shoulders) - yes 5***** Professional, good materials - yes 5*****
But, if I've use Nomad in total assemblage (inner + outer) I have my shoulders in cold!!! In only -5'C.
Is it item cost 610$?? My wife have finnish more cheaply parka. And she have not shoulders in cold!!!
