The CAMP XLS Plus Shovel provides you with a versatile backcountry tool that functions as a shovel, snow anchor, and (hopefully not) as an emergency splint. This shaftless digger comes equipped with webbing straps for please-god-let-it-hold snow belays, and hook-and-loop closures let you rig up the flexible plastic into a stable support for an injured partner.
Bottom Line: Light and versatile for anything-could-happen days.

This tool is great for what it is: moving unconsolidated snow for non-avy purposes. Would also make a great emergency splint. Weighs almost nothing, so I bring it along on below-treeline tours in Vermont where no avy gear is ever needed. In case of an emergency bivy, would be great for digging a snow shelter.

It is just built to stay in your pack for rando races!But I give it a zero for actually digging your partner out,or for snow caves!

If you're headed into the backcountry with somebody you hate and wouldn't really want to save, this is the shovel for you. It doesn't do a thing except in totally uncompacted powder snow. It is a travesty that this product is on the market.
