The CamelBak Filter Adapter connects directly to your hydration system, letting you simultaneously filter water and fill your CamelBak reservoir without even removing your pack. It couldn't make filtration any easier. Here's how it works: You're at a water source and are ready to fill your CamelBak reservoir with water. Remove the bite valve on your CamelBak hose. Insert the larger component (with yellow valve) into the hose. Connect the HydroLink (smaller component) onto most water filter hoses. Snap the HydroLink into the larger component with valve, and reverse-fill your reservoir quickly & conveniently.
Bottom Line: Quick & easy way to refill your CamelBak on the fly, directly from the source. That's core.

In general this is a good idea - this version is a little bulky (long) though and camelback makes a few others designed so the bite valve fits more snugly on one of the male ends. Many folks like the shut-off valve to avoid leaks - personally I always use a bite valve cover & never get any leaks so the shut off valve is superfluous for me. I actually made a version of this with commercial valve with auto shut-off features. This actually makes more sense to me (and is smaller). Overall a good but slightly too bulky product. (it is compatible with other brands and is the standard industry quick-connect size.
The issue with all these designs is that its a little difficult to know that you have fully filled your hydration sack while its still in the pack... no good solution seems to exist

I see that Camelbak now sells a flowmeter that connects to the tube and provides indication of remaining volume based on calculated usage...

I used this item to create a quick detachment for the drinking tube on my Camelbak. Now I can detach the drinking tube and remove the bladder from my pack without re-routing the drinking tube.
Has anyone used this with the Katadyn Base Camp or other gravity
Has anyone used this with the Katadyn Base Camp or other gravity feed micro filters? Does it work at all (leaning reservoir down a hill, against a tree, your pack, in the pack, etc.)? I just get tired holding the Omega Reservoir for the time it takes to filter 3L of water.

I have used the MSR gravity filter without this. I take the hydrolock off the tube and hook it directly into the filter. Saves the weight of needing extra tubes and pieces.

The Camelbak Filter Adapter is the handiest thing since sliced bread. With the adapter, just plug your filter outlet hose into the hose of the Camelbak and start pumping. No unloading your pack to fill it up. I've used it on three trips now and I'll never go without it. Hint, Remove any excess air from bladder if you only partially fill it at the start of your trip. Aids in filling it on the trail.

i love this little guy, it makes my life easier because I don't have to take out my camelbak when I filter water into it. no leaks, and works great
