If you’re the kind of person who loves a challenge, especially on the water, then we suggest you get on the C4 Waterman SUB Vector stand-up paddle board. This SUB Vector comes in two sizes and offers big, accomplished water athletes the means to mesh their short board and stand up skills in the surf with precision and speed.

  • Rail-to-rail concavity throughout a large percentage of the deck space creates a lower center of gravity for enhanced stability
  • Hard-shaped edges provide unrivaled handling, enhance planning at low speeds, and eliminate yawing (the deviation off a straight line when paddling)
  • Double-barrel concave tail shape means your back foot transfers motions through the board and into the water for rapid rail-to-rail transitions and quick turns
  • Thermal epoxy compression technology bonds the EPS foam to Divinycell material to form the buoyant core
  • Core wrapped in fiberglass to resist dings and cracks
  • High-density foam top provides both grip and cushion for your feet that transfers into less leg fatigue and reduced lower back pain
  • All sizes feature finger well for transport and deck leash plugs for paddle holders and leash

Bottom Line: For big guys who charge waves and paddle fast in open water.

The board to own for bigger guys who want to surf a SUB

By:

First off, this board is for surfing chest to double head high waves. If you are primarily doing something else you want a different board. On bigger waves you want a gun and on smaller you want a longboard. On flat water you want a down winder. But if you are a bigger person and you want to aggressively surf reasonable sized waves on a SUB this is your board and nothing else really comes close.

Its counter intuitive, but if you are around 180+ lbs you want to buy the shorter 9'3. Its thicker so it actually displaces more water and that means it floats bigger people. the longer 9'6 is thinner and the one to go for if you are closer to 160 than 180.

I'm sitting at 210 lbs right now, bought this board when I was 200 lbs (gained muscle mass from paddling it. yeah!). On calm water and clean surf it is totally do-able if you are an intermediate 200 lbs paddler or a beginner 180 pounder. On choppy water you need a little more skill, but once you have it down you will never want to go back.

Pro Tip: This board loves a quad fin set up, look to buy a set of Controller (for smaller waves) or Gerry Lopez (for bigger waves) quad fins to go with it at some point. They make a huge difference over the stand fins.

Summary: If you weight between 180-225 lbs and want to surf a stand up board you buy this board in the 9'3 size and put some quad fins on it. It is the only option worth considering besides a custom board. If you weight less than 180 the 9'6 is a good choice but there are some other good choices out there to research.
