Description

You best protect ya deck.

The Burton Wheelie Gig Bag has enough space for multiple boards, and enough padding to keep 'em safe during the Luggage-Handler Games (events include Distance Toss, Simultaneous Carry, and Baggage Bowling). The outer pocket stores your boots and bindings, and the IXION wheel system makes short work of long drags through the airport.

Hmmm after 4 trips...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I reviewed this back after a trip to Big Bear and I was happy with it but I also named the review "so far so good" particularly because 1 trip is not a good enough test for a bag. I ended up taking to it Colorado and on a few local resorts after the 4th trip. The zipper started to come apart from the cloth in multiple areas, poor stitching I suppose. Ended up getting a hold of backcountry to save my a** on this. Might have just been a bad bag don't want to disgard the bag as a whole just passing the info along.

So far so good

Flew to Bear Mnt last week and the bag held up great, gotta say for a big bag like this it is very maneuverable, the wheels on it are very durable and roll over damn near everything. The room the bag is great i packed a pair of skis wi/ boots and a board w boots and all the gear i wear and it fit the only problem was the weight was 67lbs about 17lbs over the limit had to rework and got it right at 50lbs, I highly recommend this bag

I have 162 board and i'm going to put my boots and helmet in this bag, so 162 enough or 166 would be better?

Get the 166! More room for extra gear is always a plus.

Great bag. Hauls it all

Great bag. It's big enough for your board, boots, outerwear, goggles and other small items which is great because then you can pack the rest of your gear in a couple carry-on bags and avoid the $30-$40 additional checked bag charge that most airlines will hit you with. It's well constructed and rolls nice. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the shoulder strap is lame but it wouldn't stop me from buying this bag again.

A Must Have!

Given the going rate of checked luggage on a flight this bag is a necessity. It only weighs 7lbs so that leaves plenty of gear before incurring additional penalties. The pocket for boots is great, and smaller pockets are a nice bonus (even a built in luggage tag). The padding is dense, but not bulky or heavy, and double stitches + rivets makes for a durable piece of luggage. Best part is that it uses skateboard wheels. I have had 5+ different pieces of snowboard luggage, and twice I scrapped expensive luggage because of cheap wheels; FINALLY you can cheaply fix this problem! I recommend this bag to everyone, it is Jake Burton's favorite bag.

wanting to get the wheelie hig bag...but dont know about sizing...i have a 160cm board and my wife has ski that are about an inch longer...do i go with the 181walters or 166...i want to be able to carry as much gear as possible but still want to be able to handle the bag well while at the airport and lugging it around...can anyone help me?

Responded on

Hey Zac, you could fit everything into the 166cm (160cm + 1 inch = ~162.5 cm)... I would get the larger one and just pack the extra space full of stuff!

Stellar Bag, lame shoulder strap

My Wheelie Gig has toted my wife and my gear on the road and on a few flights. Airline abuse did in my last bag (burton board sack) but this one has held up really well--even with our 166 Gig packed full. It's durable construction, for us, had one exception: the shoulder strap broke the first time we used it. Still, my wife and I give the Burton Wheelie Gig Bag top marks. For us it's the perfect balance of size and portability.

Hey,I've got a 157.5 board, would this bag be perfect for it or is it to big?.and would I be able to fit all my other luggage without taking another carry bag with my other clothes etc?....

Responded on

I'd go with the 166. That's what my wife and I haul and storage our boards and a good amount of gear in. I ride a 160 and my wife rides a 156 and we put the extra bag space to good use. I've used the bag with only my board and I didn't need any other luggage--checked or carry on. It fit everything I needed for my 3day trip. If you are wanting to pack cloths/gear with your 157.5 into a board bag, then I would suggest this bag and size 166. I hope that helps.

I have a 156 board. Would the 156 bag be big enough if I just want it to hold my board, bindings and boots?

Responded on

Hey Caz, yeah it should hold your board/gear snugly!

Will this fit a 165W Custom?

If you get the 181 cm bag then yes it will fit your board no problem.

This bag has enough room for all your gear... and possibly your friend too. Its well made and really tough. Just make sure you don't leave your board in it over night after using your board, since its tarp lined it will rust.

useful

The bag is pretty sweet. I bought a 181 bag for a destination wedding in whistler this winter. My board is only a 155. If there is extra room at the top, it makes the bag a little hard to drag around. If you fill it up its not a big deal. It can hold 2 boards 2 sets of boots and then some. I definitely recommend this bag but if you aren't trying to get extra space for more gear It would be best to get a bag slightly larger than your board.

Great Bag

I'd recommend this bag. Took it up to Mammoth strapped to the top of the car recently. Fit my board (bindings on), boots, helmet, etc. plus my wife's skis, poles and helmet. Couldn't fit much more, but did the trick for this trip!

Great Bag

I love this bag. It holds up to everything, keeps your board safe, and has room for my board (with bindings on) boots, helmet, goggles, pants, jacket, some under armor and other clothes, gloves, and a couple other things.

A few comments on some of the board bag...

A few comments on some of the board bag pages note how many customers are opting for +10-22cm than their board length for the extra room to stash jackets, pants, and other soft gear. The below comment seems to indicate that that extra length isn't necessary. I have a 154 board, and am always looking to save some cash on checked bags - could the 156 fit my board, bindings, boots, jacket/pants, and the rest of it? Or should I opt for a larger (maybe bulkier) bag?

Responded on

I would go with the 156. I don't think it is necessary to upgrade 10 cm. The 156 is enough room. It is big enough to fit you board, bindings, boots, and outerwear. Go with the 156.

how is the padding on the bag? I want to use this board to travel from Australia to Canada? So obviously something thick enough for when they toss the board bag around the place.

Responded on

The padding this thick enough for sure. This is a great travel bag. It will easily fit two boards, bindings, boots and some outerwear. You will be stoked on this bag.

Responded on

My previous board bag survived a couple of flights before being too thrashed to travel reliably. Then I got this one. This one has put up with airline abuse really well--no seams blowing, no busted zippers, no massive gashes in the material. In fact, none of my gear has received any wear from flying when in my Gig. So the padding is more than sufficient. If you are still worried bumps and bruises, save yourself the worrying and put a coat or towel around your board. If nothing else it will help you sleep better on the plane.

All in one board bag

This bag is perfect if you are sick of traveling with two bags to the snow. The cast at the bottom of the bag where the wheels are and is the only completely hard casing for the bag. The rest of the bag has a soft padding although should be ample for your board and gear. I have a 166 board and opted for the 188 bag so I could fit more in, in hindsight the 166 bag would have been better and still would have given enough room. I have put board boots, snow boots, 2 x ski gear, bindings, helmet and everything else and there is still room. The only downside is not having a stiff bottom although once the boards in this pretty much does the job.
