Burton gave the Supermodel X Snowboard every possible advantage they could come up with for ripping the sickest, steepest, big-mountain lines and backcountry chutes. The Powder Fly III core uses lighter materials in the tip and 10mm tapered shape to increase float without having to move the stance back more than an inch. This lets you land switch with confidence when you throw a five from the cornice. A super-fast Sintered WFO Vision base lets you tearing down the goods at blinding speeds, and Carbon Vaporskin construction to keep the whole package lightweight. Burton also added ICS mounting to provide nearly limitless stance options with standard or EST bindings. *We can't control the color of board you get, but who doesn't like surprises? Sorry dude no flows with this board. This one is only compatible with burton binders. However if you are looking for a high end burton to put your flows on the the T6 will most likley serve you well. If you are looking for a pow stick (and some) then the forum roost is a cheap alternative that is compatible with normal bindinds.

This board is wicked. It easily slashes the pow and drops fat cliffs. Versatile all over the mountain and has a good shape allowing you to stomp it switch. Def buy it

That's their higher end board. Burton high end boards are still made in Austria.

Have ridden 3 days so far - this board want to go fast, fast, fast. In the groomers you'll be flying in no time at all- seems like the board wants to accelerate. Good flex in the turns and the edges feel nice when your going through toe to heel transitions. Got in the deep powder and it was dreamy and fun - there's a great latitude of stance widths with the EST system and plenty of room to set the bindings way back for powder riding. Definitely fun so far! by the way I'm 6'3" and weigh about 190 lb. - size 13 feet and no problems with toe or heel drag. was concerned at first because it's a mid-wide not a true wide board. Hope this helps!
Would the 160 be hard to turn on the trees? I'm 5'6",
Would the 160 be hard to turn on the trees? I'm 5'6", and about 190-195lbs geared up with pack. Based on weight alone I'd go with the 160. My regular board is a 159 T6. Just wondering if there would be a big difference in the trees between 156 & 160. Tree riding would only be occasional though (5-10%). I just got back from Silverton (bowls and chutes, but also some tree runs) would have served me well there (my T6 was OK - SMX would have been better).156 or 160 SMX?

im 6' 185 and i ride a 163 element in trees. about 70% of my time riding is in the trees and it does just fine for me. i hate groomed runs, too many people.

This board is amazing. Its set up so it works really well in deep powder but you still have the option of riding it switch. The tail is only 10cm smaller than the nose so it can go eaither direction easily. This board is also good for riders with bigger feet, I have size 12s and never get toe drag. Complete this board with some Cartel ESTs and you've got a setup the will be the envy of every other boarder on the mountain

I would like to know the difference between the Super Model and the Custom. I want an all-mountain board that is a powder hound and rips the groomers. I have the fix for the park...now I want a kick butt free-ride board. Which would do the trick? I must add that as I progress, I would like to take some drops and jumps with this board as well as rip the pow and groomer.CD. I am an intermediate rider.

The Supermodel X is your ticket to greatness. It has a tapered profile-wider nose than tail-so you will get great flotation in the powder, and make landings in the pow much easier. Also, this board is equipped with a deeper side cut than the custom, making gnarly turns on groomers a piece of cake. Go to burton's website and compare board specs if you want more details.

After 9 years of riding my once top of the line Morrow Lithium, I started the long and painful search for a replacement, 3 years and 3 boards later I finally found it with the 2008, Burton Supmod X 156.
I am a 5'8" medium build girl, and am an aggressive rider who likes to dabble all over the mountain, but my favorite runs by far are double blacks through the trees in deep powder! Thus this board is perfect, it handles the whole mountain well, but loves deep powder as much as I do. It is also well suited for the grooms and handles cold hard pack well with minimum chatter even at super high speeds. I don't go big in the park, thus the board handles just fine for what little i do do. I got in 28 days this year, mainly in the sierras with a few trips to colorado and northern idaho...never went anywhere without this board!
Thinking about getting the 164 supermodel or possibly the custom
Thinking about getting the 164 supermodel or possibly the custom x wide 164. I know they are two different style boards but I'm about 250lbs and 5'10" and have a size 12 boot. And I ride a little of everything but more so just bombing and cruising this year due to knee reconstruction any advice would be great.

Hey Michael, Either of the boards would be an awesome choice. I will say that if you are looking for a better all around cruising board to go with the Supermodel X. The Custom X is going to be an all mountain freestyle board so it is going to be a more flexible board. If you are a high speed rider, the extra flex can affect your riding. Also, the Supermodel X is going to offer a bit more control when it comes to all around riding, so it will put less stress on your knee.

I am 72kg and 174cm tall. Of the two sizes, 160 and 156, which will suit my height and weight preference. Normally you upsize for a powder/free ride board, but burton suggests to downsize 2-4cm from normal board size (i usually ride a 156). I want to use this board for Japan(powder) so bear that in mind. Thanks for your help

it depends on how aggressive of a rider you are. If think you can control a 160, then go for it. I am 173cm and 70kg and am an aggressive rider in the powder and I prefer the 156, but I am also a girl. I have ridden a 158 and a 160 in other boards and just felt they were a bit much to control.

dude, go for the 160. regardless of what burton says about downsizing, i don't think the 156 will give you adequate float for your weight. even if it did, a 156 will feel too slow.
