Description

Just because this oxymoron exists doesn’t mean you should believe in Vermont powder.

The phrase 'technical flannel' sounds like an oxymoron, but the Burton Ruckus Hoody proves that contradictory terms can combine to form a kick-ass riding layer. This flannel offers all the warmth and grunge-era style that flannels should and, on top of that, it dries quickly and breathes to keep you comfortable on the hill.

Great all round

Great all round flanny.
works awesome as a riding layer - doesn't get too hot but also keeps you warm.
also looks good for wearing at the pub after a day of riding.

Will this keep me warm on a cold day at the slopes

Responded on

Luke,
This is a great layer for cold days, but I would definitely not recommend it by itself if its super cold out. It works great by itself on sunny spring days, or great as a layer on the more nasty weather days.

I got one last year and loved it so much I had to buy a 2nd. Good style on the hill.

Perfect flannel

  • Gender: Female

I picked up this flannel for my boyfriend, and he LOVES it. He wears it as a riding layer- which works great because it is a taller fit and not cotton- as well as out with a pair of jeans. Absolutely perfect in either setting.
I picked out the size L for him (what he wears in other Burton flannels) and the fit was great. No need to bounce around with sizing. Plus the Murphy Vandyke coloring is just awesome. I honestly dig it so much I want one for myself...

Ruckus Flannel

Dryride Ultrawick is very breathable and very comfortable. Not as much warmth as I originally thought but still great none the less. Nice big hood but the draw string is a little weird to cinch it down tight for those faster groomer runs, catches the air in the hood. Perfect for going out for a night on the town as it can keep you warm when you need to step outside for a few minutes, but won't be too hot while you are in the bar.

Beautiful

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a great product. I bought the bright green version and wore it to work today and about five people complimented it.

It's extremely comfortable, feels very durable, and sits nicely on the body.

And it's long. I wrote to ask the lengths on four models of shirts as I am tall and shirts come untucked when I'd rather they not. Backcountry had someone check the lengths on four shirts for me and the Burton came in at 31". And...it does not come untucked! I was kneeling down, putting my arms over my head, all sorts of things I do in my work - and the shirt did not come untucked all day. Awesome, and more rare for someone 6'4" then some may think.

The package also came when anticipated, so the whole experience with Backcountry and Burton gets a very high recommendation from me.

One caveat that may go without saying - the way the flannel is cut may not match the photo online. For some reason I really love the way the flannel matches with the design on the online photo, and the model I received is cut differently. I suppose this is just the way it works in the industry - that the fabrics are cut as they are cut, and the shirts will all be somewhat different.

I've only wore it once, so I cannot vouch for it's actual durability, but the shirt feels very sturdy - but at the same time it isn't hard and uncomfortable.

I'm already planning on buying the red one next. I'm thankful to Backcountry and Burton for bringing me the best plaid shirt experience I have had to date.

What size did you get being 6'4'? I am all as well and am torn between the L and XL

Responded on

Hi Jon,

I bought a large...I was also extremely torn. I'm not lanky, but I am not large, I'm basically a medium build. My concern with the XL is my consistent concern with XL's - that it would be way to big and make me look like an overgrown 5 year old. Being tall and not fat excludes a lot of Big and Tall merchandise, it seems = I'm guessing 6'4" to 6'6" must be an awkward range for guys in general. My concern with getting a large is that it is too tight of a fit to be comfortable to me, or too short.

For me, the L of this shirt was a perfect fit. Backcountry has such fast delivery and such a liberal return policy that I am fairly certain you could buy an L and if it doesn't fit immediately send it back and receive the XL in return in about a week and a half's time if you turn it right around. So if I were you I'd dive into the L (depending on your weight - if you would consider yourself hefty or overweight you may want to opt in for the XL first), try it on, and if it isn't right for you immediately spin it around to them.

Best to you!

By the way, Jon, the L is 31" long and the XL is 32" long, if that helps in making your choice.

Awesome

Burton Ruckus Hooded Flannel and its hoodie/flannel combo package. Worn by pretty much the entire Burton team, its lightweight warmth and quick-drying technical properties are easy on the workingman and far more accessible than time travel.
