    Sets the freestyle standard.

The Burton Malavita EST Snowboard Binding sets the bar in hard-charging freestyle response, unmatched board feel, and ergonomic comfort, thanks to continual improvements in strap shapes and Burton's EST baseplate. Its mid-stiff flex is  optimal for hard-charging freestyle riders looking to take their tricks to the entire mountain.

Standing for Extra Sensory Technology (EST), the binding's EST baseplate only mounts to Burton boards equipped with The Channel. This next-level mounting interface significantly increases board feel and response by removing the "dead spot" associated with a traditional mounting disc. This allows Burton to place low-profile B3 gel padding where it's needed most, smoothing out the binding's ride when you're hammering over choppy snow and coming up short on huge park kickers.

This binding gives you two highback options, which are essentially the same, except for the hinged design that wraps around your calves for extra leverage when you're pressing on rails, tweaking grabs, and buttering through the park. Go for the Reaper colorway if you'd like the extra leverage and control of a winged highback. Otherwise, the remaining colorways feature the same Canted Living Hinge highback. This highback features Burton's Living Hinge, which rolls laterally, much like you'd experience when snapping the tail of a skateboard. The end result is higher ollies and boosted freestyle performance when you're sending side-hits and park kickers.

New for this year, Burton upgraded the Malavita with its Asym Hammockstrap. Previously found only on the space-age Genesis, the Asym Hammockstrap removes all unnecessary materials for a lighter overall weight and better fit around your ankle. In fact, you'll find it snugly wraps around your ankle without the unwanted pressure points of thicker, heavier straps, thanks to its cored-out, 3D-curved design. Another update for this year, Burton overhauled the Capstrap, giving you the Super Grip Capstrap for a stickier, snugger fit for the utmost in response and comfort.

    The Only Binding I Ride

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Malavita is the only Burton Binding I'll ride at this point. My favorite part of the binding is the Canted Living Hinge Zero-Lean High-back. The hinge gives you a lateral roll allowing you more pop and higher ollies, the same idea as skateboard. The Zero lean is perfect for any rider looking for the ability to have zero forward lean like myself.

    The Only Binding I Ride

    Solid Bindings

This was my first experience owning EST bindings. It had been years since I bought a Burton board, and decided I needed the fish this year. I'm really impressed by these bindings. I love the straps, they are comfortable, easy to use, and easy to get out of the way. EST was a cinch to setup. I got these for my fish, so more for powder riding. I like the flex on them, and have taken a few laps in the park with them too. No complaints here.

      Impressive but stuck?

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Replaced an old pair of Malavitas with these and have since had them out four full days on the hill. I was surprised by how stiff they were out of the box but they have since broken in a bit. I love the forefoot strap. You can see it mold to the top of your boot as you are tightening, very cool. The hammock straps also fold flat to make getting them on a lot easier when standing. However, on the 4th day they began sticking when I tried to take them off. I'm not sure if I was over tightening or ice was getting in there or what. It was happening on both the right and left binding. A little embarrassing as I was yanking away at the bottom of the hill like a noob until they finally gave way. Maybe it was a one day thing... I'll update if it changes.

The Wing is a Game Changer

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So I bought these in the Reaper colorway with the Wing. I had grown up watching my favorite pro riders using these Wings and I wanted to experience what that is like finally.
It has really opened my eyes as far as pressing in and out of boxes and even just leaning back with riding deep powder in the Wasatch Mountains. If you are a park guy then I would highly recommend these for really solid pressing in and out of boxes/rails. Even if you want to just be an all mountain ripper these are a great option for you as well!
These will only work with Burton EST model snowboards!! Hit me up anytime on chat for any more detailed questions you might have!

      Burton's Do-It-All Binding

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've tested/owned bindings from a range of brands so if you've got questions about bindings or want me to get you into the right snowboard set up that'll match your riding style, definitely get in contact with me.

I've used the Malavita Re:Flex and EST and really liked the flex for hitting side kickers and the forgiveness they offered on landings.

      Handling :

The Malavita's do a bit of everything pretty well. They handled nice on hardpack at speed while laying down a carve but also had the right about of flex on landings. Burton calls these a 5 out of 10 and I'd peg that as pretty accurate.

If you've got questions about compatibility or sizing, run those by me!

If you've got questions or want to chat about these binders before picking up a pair, definitely get in contact with me an we can chat about your riding style and which binding / snowboard set up will be best for you.

Is of the Re:Flex version (I've ridden both the EST and Re:Flex versions).
