Description

Pirelli-powered big-mountain freestyle.

The legendary featherweight big-mountain freestyle whip that is the Burton Ion Snowboard Boot returns to continue its legacy of sought-after comfort and support—but this time it's running Pirellis. That's right, the best just got better with incomparable tread developed by Pirelli for optimal traction that gives you a secure foot-hold both in the binding and during the backcountry ascent. In addition to its snow-tire inspired design, the Ion's all-star assortment of tech is still present, including Speed Zone lacing and the anatomical support of AutoCANT cushioning.

  • Speed Zone lacing delivers a closer-fitting, dual-zone wrap with less effort and time than traditional lacing
  • Outer-shell relief panel disperses pain-causing pressure before you even know it's there
  • Firm-flex thin profile 3D molded tongue fits proper right out of the box and is thinner than your average tongue to pull in closer to reduce stacked-up volume
  • Seamless Power Spine backstay maintains the shape of the boot all season long and beyond
  • Imprint 4 liner features sole-to-cuff Power Panels for 100-day worthy support and J-Bar adjustable heel retention along with DryRide moisture-wicking properties to fight odors
  • Level 3 EVA footbed with ESS support shank and Aegis antimicrobial coating
  • AutoCANT dual-density cushioning encourages a natural foot position and reduced fatigue and has been developed with ducked angles and wide stances in mind
  • EST-optimized midsole delivers low-to-the-ground extra-sensory response with lightweight cushioning that comes ready to do battle repeated flat landings
  • Rad Pad pre-curved panels are located at the instep to absorb pressure from tightened laces
  • Pirelli rubber outsole features a unique traction design modeled after high-end snow-tire tread patterns
  • Shrinkage footprint reduction technology takes down the volume of the boot a whole boot size while fitting true inside the boot
  • Total Comfort design eliminates pressure points and overall discomfort at the widest part of your foot by moving the beginning of the laces further up the foot

These boots come ready to tango right out of the box as I felt zero or little break-in period. The tightening system, with being able to tighten the top or bottom part of the boot, is so lush that I feel like a man from the stone age using laces for this long. Stiff and soft in all the right places. Absolutely the best boot I've ever worn.

This is my second pair of Ions and again I question why I didn't pony up for them the last two seasons. Super comfortable boot with just enough flex to be playful but still incredibly supportive. My only gripe is I wear a 12 in street shoes. With Burton boots I can squeeze into an 11. This year somehow I managed to get my foot into a 10.5 which I'm very happy with. But unfortunately after a few days of hard riding I feel the boots have already packed out and maybe I could have squeezed my foot into a 10 to get a better fit and more life out of the boot. That's the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars.

Thanks for the info. I was debating between an 11 and an 11.5... My current boots are 5 year old Ions, size 11.5. I am thinking I might try the smaller size...

I've actually got a pretty wide foot. Honestly they packed out pretty quickly. Maybe in under 20 days of hard riding with some wet pow days in there too that more than likely helped stretch the leather.

Do you have a really narrow foot and about how many days of riding would you say it took for them to pack out?

I ordered these from Backcountry.com and received them 2 days later as promised. Staff is well informed and helpful. Tried on the boot at home and they feel pretty good. Only 4 stars cause I haven't actually been able to use them yet... An unboxing video I did in case you want to see what $430 gets you...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlaiBX0GMPM&feature=plcp
