Guide-approved backcountry dominance.
Designed with input from professional guides from across North America, the Burton Family Tree Gate Keeper Snowboard was designed to handle everything the backcountry can (and will) throw at you, from waist-deep dream days to ice-covered crust and hair-raising steeps to mellow tree runs.
Float and speed were a priority when developing this board, so Burton gave it a tapered directional shape to help it glide effortlessly through powder and blast across flat sections. A mostly camber profile gives it the edge hold and explosive power needed to conquer the most demanding fall lines, while a large rockered nose keeps it afloat in the deepest snow. The flex is stiff enough for confidently dropping into technical steeps, but not too aggressive, so you can still enjoy a surfy sensation on mellower runs. If you want a board that crushes any terrain in any snow conditions, the Gate Keeper holds the key.

Powder Day Workhorse
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Made for and designed by heli guides in Canada. Made for big lines and deep snow but with the side cut that allows for fun wiggle turns.
No only does it do that the guides in CA wanted a board that could hold speed through deep flat snow. That means no more getting stuck, this thing guilds when others sink.
My top pick for a backcountry board.
The Burton Board I'm Most Excited About

I rode this board on probably one of the best riding days I've had of my life. A mega fun day last winter at Brighton with a few guys from Burton trying out all the new 2017 Burton Family Tree boards (Gate Keeper, Branch Manager, Skipjack Surf). It was a storm day and the refills kept coming. Everything from bootpacking to spots on the edge of the resort, dropping some cliffs and surfing through endless powder. This board struggled with nothing.
My personal approach is comparing this against the Flight Attendant was the board I think a lot of guys that would ride this would be looking at. The effective edge is a little longer and a slightly longer sidecut radius. I ride the Flight Attendant in a 162cm and the Gate Keeper in a 163cm.
