The Burton Driver X Snowboard Boot's super-supportive flex delivers ultimate control while riding at brain-melting speed. Not to be pigeonholed as a freeride-only boot, the Driver X packs enough cushioning to launch into the flats and ride away unscathed.

  • Speed Zone lacing system offers a custom fit with pull-and-go convenience
  • Recycled Vibram Ecostep outsole provides great traction for sketchy bootpacks or icy lift lines
  • Dual-density cushioning (B3 gel in the heel, EVA in the toe) reduces impact from choppy run-outs or harsh landings
  • Dual Axis Power Spine backstay ensures instant edge response for added control
  • Rider-Adjustable Flex tongue insert lets you choose between stiff and really stiff
  • Shrinkage Footprint Reduction technology reduces shell size for a low-bulk, streamlined fit

Bottom Line: Sometimes missing your line is not an option.

I've been riding the same pair of Drivers since 05' and they get better year after year. I ride about 30 days a year 14 in VT and 14 in UT. Still the same laces and only minimal external damage. i just bought last years so I have a back up just in case Burton discontinues. Paired with CO2 and Custom X there is no better. I killed it at the Bird day after day with 3' of pow and not one foot issue. I'm 6' and 195 and been riding for 27 years and have tried other brands but always come back to Burton.

Has anyone had any experience with crampon-compatibility with

Has anyone had any experience with crampon-compatibility with the Driver X? I have a pair of Ions and they really struggle to work with my Grivel G12 crampons. Partly because there is no lug at the heel of the boot, and partly because when I crank down on the tightening mechanism for the crampons, the toe of the boot just folds.....no bueno.

The driver X is the stiffest boot burton makes. I friend of mine who films with Wasatch: The Official Production Podcast, which is a split board crew that tours the Wasatch mountains in Utah. He runs these and loves them. I believe him cause I have no experience with split boarding at all.

Great Boots

By:

Just spent a week in fresh powder. Couldn't have asked for a warmer boot. Solid stiff boot was just what I was looking. The lacing system was super simple and held tight all day.

Anyone else have any feedback on this year's Driver X's

Anyone else have any feedback on this year's Driver X's yet other than Brando? Looking for a STIFF, low profile boot for splitboarding. Any other ideas for a similar boot would be awesome as well. I have a size 12-13 boot so anything that will reduce my foot print and heel/toe drag is what I'm looking for.

Hey QuinnL,
While I haven't tried this year's Driver X, I can tell you a great boot for your needs. Check out the Salomon Malamute boot (http://www.backcountry.com/salomon-malamute-snowboard-boot-mens). This boot is super stiff (10/10) but is as low-profile as they come. I've been riding Salomon's for years and have never been disappointed. Also, their PowerLace Pro set up is legit, just beware of your gaiter lace loop, not recommended for PowerLace set up's as it can loosen it.

Burton Driver X Right on the MONEY !

By:

I am ridding on my 2nd pair since they came out and about to buy my 3rd here. Both pair still function, both are just worn in the sole and heel pocket is packed out. I have never broken a lace and never had a problem with the lace catch. You just have to learn your boot. I watched a young turk one night at the slope pull his laces so hard he broke both ! If the boots are toooooo big for you, all the lace pull in the world won't correct for a boot oversized. Try boots on and don't buy sight unseen unless you know the brand and how well their liner and lace system works. Do some research and don't just get the cheapest or coolest pair you see on sale. You can make do with a cheap board and bindings if you have too. The best board made with the best binding made will still ride like Crap if your boots DO NOT FIT ! More powder days please !

I give up on Burton

By:
December 8, 2010

These boots are a joke. Sure, they're nice and stiff...while the lacing system holds. I got 9 days out of their lousy lacing system before it quit holding the laces tight. Now, I am on the verge of a 7 day trip and I will have no boots.

Lame.

They're not any better than my old Driver boots with normal laces. Plus, the laces are not changeable in the field. That means if you break a lace in the back country, you are hosed.

Smart investment? I think not! Maybe worth $3.50, not $350.00.

So sorry to all you Burton lovers out there... but the speed zone system, doesn't seem quality AT ALL. I literally took the right boot out of the box, pulled the speed zone, and it didn't work. I thought it was me and thought maybe i don't know how to work this new gadget, but then I tried on the left and it pulled tight like it is supposed to. I wrested with the right boot and tried to make it work, but it just wouldn't snap tight... needless to say, I immediately got an RMA number and returned these bad boys. For the price and quality, I wasn't impressed because I'm not risking a powder day in the fate of a freakin boot. Imagine, being 11K feet up, read to descend, an epic canvas in front of you, and then your boot malfunctions and won't pull tight. Wow, can't even imagine it. All in all, i'm thinking Burton's quality has gone to shit, but still hopeful they'll bring the quality back. Maybe this is a sign that things shouldn't be made in China. This year, I bought the CUSTOM X WIDE 164 (which was made in Austria), and I'm really pulling for quality and performance here, but if i have any issues whatsoever, Burton will be dead to me, and I'll spread the word that the quality sucks. I'm a snowboarder of 19 years, lived in Aspen and Park City for quite awhile now, and have been through a lot of gear, so I know the feel and quality when I see it... all in all, i really like the ride of the boards, but I have broken several before. Hopefully this new board does the job and the company made a wise decision with producing boards in Austria, or I'm back to Ride, Lib Tech, and Never Summer. Good luck Burton! Seriously though, what's the deal with this piss poor quality in the boot? Maybe sacrifice some STEEZE for quality. I could really care less about a gold star on my boot or board, but I am more interested in performance in a blizzard! Give me a break! Jake, are you completely hands off the production of your products? I hope this message gets out. Best Regards!

I have an ion i believe from 2009 that has the same or at least similar lacing system. It worked perfectly fine in the beginning. But after a while the casing of the laces came of. It still sort of works but not great and the pressure is not evenly distributed anymore. So yes you might run into troubles with the lacing system even if brando's blather is obnoxious.

"Brando" is reviewing a boot he didn't bother to ride. He wasn't even smart enough to figure out the lacing system that my 8 year old had down in 1 minute. What a joke. LOL

The speed zone system has always been finicky in my experience with it, but it's solid once you figure out how to use it. All you have to do is pull the laces tight into the cleats, they don't always take the first time, and I had a lot of trouble with them when I first started using them. However now, after 2 years with the system on the same pair of boots, they haven't failed on me once.

Dude get over your "epic canvas" self!! Any product has the possability of failure, and burton always stands behind their shit. I have been rocking these boots for model year, after model year and never had a problem with the lacing system. If your as rad as you make yourself sound, why are you payin for boots and boards anyway? These boots fit great, are stiffer than last years, and they brought back the plastic tounge stiffeners, if you are into that. Do not listen to Branon's bro brah blah blah, these boots rip.
