What sets this jacket apart from other high-performance shells is the innovative Bionic fiber that is integrated into the fabric of the jacket. This environmentally sustainable material is made with 45% recycled plastic bottles and is woven in with other natural and synthetic fibers to create a fabric that is up to four times stronger than traditional synthetics. Burton uses the Bionic material in two different weaves in the Bionic 2L jacket―the front and back of the body feature a ribbed twill weave, and the sleeves and hood feature a Bolivian-inspired two-tone jacquard weave that gives it a look all its own.

3M Thinsulate insulation (60g in the body and 40g in the sleeves) provides enough warmth to take the edge off on the cold days, and it is lightweight and thin enough that it doesn't feel like a bulky puffy jacket. For a complete weather seal, all seams are fully taped, and a removable powder skirt with snow pant integration keeps any snow from getting in. Underarm zips provide crucial venting when things get steamy, and three external pockets and two internal pockets give you enough space to store your goodies. The jacket is cut in Burton's Mid fit, which falls right between slim and traditional, and with its classy styling it is just as ready to be worn to the bar as it is to the mountain.
