Biomimicry at its finest.

Barracudas are fearsome fish that are elongated in shape, with sharp fangs and a nasty underbite. Call it biomimicry, but the Burton Barracuda Snowboard is also elongated with 15mm of nose-to-tail taper for obscene float in powder—but instead of sharp fangs and a protruding jaw, the Barracuda features Frostbite edges near the bindings for gripping ice, groomers, and choppy snow between pow-stash feasts. Springloaded with plenty of snap and equipped with a freeride-specific S-Rocker shape, the Barracuda is ready to be unleashed on the cherry-gnar.

  • Tapered shape and S-Rocker profile allow you to downsize 2 to 3cm from your usual board length
  • Springloaded S-Rocker combines rocker up front with a long and stable camber zone, which provides float and superb stability
  • The Channel mounting system improves board flex and allows infinite stance options (compatible with Burton 3D or EST bindings)
  • Sintered WFO base retains wax and goes faster than any other base out there
  • Artwork designed by William Wasden of the Kwakwaka'wakw nation in British Columbia

Great all around board, awesome in powder.

Got this in a 157, I have 5 days on it so far this year. Compared to my 2011 Custom X (which I love), The barracuda has a bit less pop and a bit less grip, and the base doesn't seem as fast on flats, but it's softer, more forgiving, and I don't have any issues on groomers or ice. Overall I was indifferent about it until riding in knee deep powder at Mount Baker. I'd get quite a bit of leg burn last year on my CX, even with the bindings set all the way back. The Barracuda is absolutely effortless in powder. ZERO leg burn and awesome float, even with my stance set at the reference position.

I bought this mainly for my trip to Alaska, and planned on riding my Custom X on non-powder days in the lower 48. I'll still pull out the CX for hardpack groomer days, just because I can, but this Barracuda is a blast in all conditions that I've ridden it in so far.

Good review, off to Jackson Hole SteepCamp... Thinking of buying the
'CUDA to supplement a Custom 162 for those deep pow days!

A Little Disappointed...

Took my new Cuda out for a test drive last weekend and I must say, I'm a little disappointed... condition was EPIC, 28" of fresh, blower-light Pow at the legendary Mt Baker. this board ripped it in POW, super "surf-y" and fun to ride until you get in groomers...

I wasn't super set back on my stance, prob only 3/4" set back. as I was comin' out of the pow stashes into the groomers, the front of the board was flapping out of control and the board was quite "squarely". again, Burton's "frostbite edges" DOES NOT WORK!!!

So if you're goin' to use this as a dedicated POW board I would give it 5 stars! if you're goin' to use is as a everyday, all mountain board then I would give it 2.5 max 3 stars. the board itself seemed well-made (made in china), a little on the heavier side,(seems like my 2010 custom is lighter)

REVIEW UPDATE 11/26/2011:

I've put a few more POW days on this thing since the last review. I've realized that the more I ride this thing in pow the more I like it.... THIS BAD MF'ER ABSOLUTELY RIPS IN POW!!!! it is FASSSST, surf-ie, floats extremely well and it's a MUST HAVE if you get to ride more than 10 POW days a year!!! I still feel like this thing is "squirely" on grooms and it doesn't hold an edge that well.

I have been waiting for the powder days so my first impressions are based on groomers. Set for more a middle stance, I did not feel the same as DH, quite solid and fast in my runs.

I cannot wait to test it out in the deep stuff!

I think if you set this for a "center stance" it defeats the purpose of owning this board... if you want to ride a more center stance, Capita's Charlie Slasher or Salomon's Sick Stick would be a better choice... regardless, this board RIPS!!! enjoy!

Took mine out for the first time yesterday on groomers, conditions were man made granular over hard pack, and had no problems whatsoever. I was curious how the edges would hold since out of the factory they felt slightly de-tuned but they held wonderfully well on typical east coast conditions. Just as well in fact as the newly sharpened edges of my Salomon Ace. The Frostbite edges work as advertised.
The board is super light, responsive and just a blast to ride. The S-rocker design gives more flexibility in where you put your stance so if you want to center it more it does not defeat the purpose as you'll still get plenty of nose lift.
Can't wait to rip some pow on this bad boy during 21 days in Japan this coming Feb!!
