When the helicopter rests its skids on the snowy ridgeline, zip up your Burton Men\222s AK 3L Hover Jacket, unload and hunker down until the noisy bird takes off, and then strap in. The AK 3L Hover\222s Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric and taped seams mean that no moisture gets in, regardless of how many white rooms you enter during your ride down. Burton\222s Sig Fit means this lightweight, bombproof shell fits not too baggy, not to tight.
Bottom Line: Extreme protection for extreme conditions.
How helmet friendly is the hood? A friend has another AK jacket from '09 or '08, that is not particularly helmet friendly. The hood fits over your helmet, but the entire jacket comes up with it and you can't move your head.
I have the previous years Hover jacket and it is not very helmet friendly.you can almost get the jacket over the helmet, but cannot zip it all the way up or turn your head. Not sure if they changed the hood this year, but the hover jacket is pretty minimal. doesn't even have an headphone wire slot off the inside chest pocket. Still my favorite jacket.
this shell is awesome! absolutely nothing gets through! i got the XL and its a loose fit, but it works well (6'5", 220 lbs). got it on sale and worth every penny. should have bought the orange one...

This jacket rules! I use it everyday for touring on my split-board! I tour 4-5 days every week... (Who wouldn't if they lived in SLC and worked nights?) It is light, packable, super breathable and waterproof! The sleeves are the right length, so when you reach down to buckle your straps the sleeves don't ride up past your wrists... The collar is not so big as to let in an airflow of blower during white rooms, but small enough to keep your face warm while allowing movement... The skirt is the right size too, and will zip in to your Burton pants! I just can't say enough about this jacket!
I saw this jacket in the window of a small ski shop in Nelson, B.C. The Foxglove color definately caught my eye. As a level III ski instructor for 40 years, the idea of spending $650 for a jacket (with all the available pro-deals) was a little daunting. I did like the color. Once back home, I hit the web looking for a end of season "deal." Backcountry.com had it priced at nearly 1/2 the B.C. price and a significant savings over MSRP. I clicked the buy button.
Wow! Though I had tried it on in B.C., the super long sleeves and torso seemed like a little too much. After one day of skiing in two feet of left over powder, on a cold and very windy day, I will likely never wear anything else. SUPER WINDPROOF! Pockets are right where they need to be and easy to open with heavy gloves. The lower left side, inside pocket looks like a great place for the electronic ticket used in the Alps. I don't use a helmet, but the hood sits nice and quiet when not being used, yet easily pulls up over my hat for extra protection. The high zipped collar keeps the chin nice and toasty. The pit zips work great! Best of all are the long sleeves. Once pulled over the goloves the ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ride up. Did I mention the Foxglove color looks great on the snow and (for me) a pleasent change from the green and brown earth tones so often seen on the hill.
Skiers get a clue! This snowboard jacket will let you stay out all day in that blizzard catching run after run of pow. Thanks Burton! Thanks Backcountry!
