Winter is a cruel wench, and since you didn't get a prenup she's trying to taking both your body heat and your Burton AK 2L Staggar Gore-Tex Jacket. We strongly recommend you hang on to both of those things. Flip nature's divorce lawyer the bird and laugh from within the comfort of a totally waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex Performance shell. Just in case tensions heat up, you've got underarm venting to dump excess heat.

  • Gore-Tex Performance Shell 2L keeps out water and lets your body breathe
  • The Dualzone ALS lining keeps heat in at your core and lets it out where things heat up
  • Fully taped seams prevent water penetration via stitching
  • Pow-grip hidden strap on the inside of the sleeve can be wrapped around your thumb to create an additional seal against snow and cold
  • Micro-adjust hood cinch lets you quickly tighten and adjust your hood with a quick-release shock cord
  • Sig fit gives you room to layer without excess bagginess and a little extra sleeve to cover your gloves
  • Removable powder skirt keeps pow out, and you can ditch it for around town to keep from looking like a fat-ass

Side medium for a true fit, size large for a slightly baggy fit.

is this jacket a good fit for very cold...

is this jacket a good fit for very cold weather in the Winter? it seems like a lot of the description is about how breathable it is but i will be using it in below freezing temps brah.

Ben- good question. Goretex shells are great for keeping you dry. However, Goretex is not an insulator. It's actually a really thin material and does not keep you very warm.

If you want an AK piece that's waterproof and insulated, you should check out the LZ Down (

Another option is buying an insulating layer like the Volcom Puff Puff down jacket to wear underneath your shell.

We also carry the Burton Grill jacket, that is Goretex and insulated. That will keep you warm and totally waterproof.

If you don't absolutely need Goretex, we have a huge selection of insulated jackets with great waterproof ratings. 10k is a solidwaterproof rating, and above that (15k, 20k) is Goretex territory. check em out here:

You have a lot of options if you want a good combination of waterproofing and insulation. Happy hunting.

Worth the $$$

Extremely high quality jacket. Liner is warm without being overly bulky. The fit is slightly slimmer than years prior which usually ran on the large side. Overall a good deal.

I was wondering about the fit on...

I was wondering about the fit on this jacket. I am on the taller side and although I fall into the Large size for the chest and waist I was wondering about the overall length.

Does anybody know the zipper length on the Large and The Extra Large?

Thanks in advance

I'm 6'3" and just received the XL... The bottom of the zipper/jacket ends about mid crotch, probably just enough that you might sit on the edge of the jacket when you sit on the lift... not by much though. I think I could still rock the L though, the sleeves are super long and the jacket is baggy. I like it a bit longer/baggier though, less cramped if you have to layer. Actually, I think that the XL is large enough on me to defeat the purpose of the pow grip strap, which seemed loose around my thumb, but I was only wearing a t-shirt and no gloves when I tried it on.

On another note, I got the Measurement Plaid, and the blue highlights in the jacket, which look minimal on the website, are actually way more noticeable in person. Not that its a bad thing, but up close there is a lot more smurf action then you would think when ordering it.

I am 5'9" and 185lbs on a good day and I would say that if I was about 5 inches taller this jacket would be a perfect fit. On me it looks like I am almost wearing a short dress and I have stubby legs:-) Good thing I have no shame though because I wouldn't trade it for anything!!! I would say you should be fine in the large it is over sized!!!
I like that the hood fits over my helmet and stays there during the windy wet days we have been having.

Killer jacket

Burton AK line makes awesome jackets, they are perfect in so many ways. Also, I had a AK jacket from three season ago that was starting to some wear with teeth on the zipper starting to break & getting worn down in general from three season of shredding 120+ day per season at least, I went to Burton got a brand new replacement in 15 minutes. That has sold me their AK products.

It good enough for most cold days in Jackson Hole (on the super duper cold days that is when the puffy comes out, luckily it not too often), best yet on the days it is warm you don't feel super hot. The material for the shell repels cold weather very well, & feels totally fine on the 35-45+ degree sunny days.

The AK line may cost a tad more than the rest, but they are SO WORTH IT or if you are lucky you'll find it on Whiskey Militia run by I've found a few gems there time to time.

Advanced Gore-Tex engineering

Advanced Gore-Tex engineering meets self-regulating climate control. The coolest thing this jacket comes with a hidden face Gator. The Pow Grip changed my life no snow up my cuffs. I also really like the drop hood such a great feature.

Responded on

Does this jacket really have a face gator? I can't find any information on the Burton website about it...

Responded on

Yep, straight from the B's website:

Ballistic Zig Zag Critical Seam Stitching
Removable Waist Gaiter with Jacket-to-Pant Interface
Zip-Out Removable Face Gaiter

yea i work at a snowboard shop and i checked it out today. its stored in a zipper pouch behind the neck and it has a cut out for your nose and has a more breathable material down the center so it is easier to breath through it. it also can stay snapped into the jacket or you can unclip it too. its freakin sweet. im rocking this jacket in the measurement plaid this year
