The Burton Men's AK 2L LZ Down Jacket gives you Himalayan-style warmth and Gore-Tex guaranteed waterproofing. Even on the nastiest days, two-layer Gore-Tex Performance Shell material is guarantee to keep you dry, and high-loft goose down locks in your heat so you stay toasty. Burton gave the LZ Down Jacket its Sig Fit, which doesn’t drown in fabric, but doesn’t emo you out either. Underarm zips help regulate your temperature, while the waist gaiter and pant-to-jacket interface lock out snow. - Fall 2008.

Warmest jacket ever

Sizing was huge, XL was more like 3XL but the quality was unmatched. Waterproof and so warm. Great jacket.

I do a lot of cold weather running... really cold -20 or colder and I need something that will keep me warm... will something like this work?

Responded on

the goose down is going to keep your heat in and the Gore-Tex will keep you dry. Wear some great base layer with this to get the best warmth possible.

great jacket

wear one thin layer when it's at 25-30 degrees. only once have i been cold in a -5 farenheit 30 mph wind cold vermont day. otherwise worn it in all sorts of conditions and it's been great. the medium is perfect I'm 5'9 170.
overall it's as advertised. if you don't want to layer up and want a lightweight sleeping bag warm jacket, this is it.

Great warm jacket

Jacket is pretty large as other reviewers have stated. I am 6'4" 170 lbs and the medium is almost too big, but it's nice to have the extra length in the arms and torso. Jacket is extremely warm and comfortable, inside is very soft. The hood has great coverage and is also very warm, I don't even need a hat when I use it. It has a heavy duty zipper which is nice, but it doesn't have the smoothest operation.

Big, snowboarding-style (obviously) jacket

In a search for a cheaper version of the Patagonia Primo Down Jacket or the Cloudveil Koven Plus Down, I turned to the Burton AK 2L when it popped up on Brociety for $199. A steal by all means and a killer jacket for someone looking for a looser fitting version of the two aforementioned pieces.

I was crossing my fingers that this wasn't going to be too roomy, but it looks like even at a size Small I think this one will have to go back. I wear a size Small in Cloudveil gear and float between Small and Medium with Patagonia.

Regardless, it's a well-crafted jacket with some really nice features that will keep any East Coast skier warm, dry and happy all winter long. Clearly this is a 4 or 5 star jacket if you're looking for a larger fit.

The real deal

First thing you should know: the sizing runs huge. i'm 5'11" 165lbs and ordered a large. It fit like a 2XL--enormous, I could have fit three of me in it. I laughed and sent it back for a medium. The medium is still big despite the "sig fit" description, but it's gonna work.

As for the rest of it, I can't complain about anything. Gore-Tex plus 600 fill goose down equals sleeping bag style warmth and rain coat style protection. The jacket hangs below my ass, and with the adjustable hem on the bottom you can cinch-up to keep the pow from creeping in (I don't use the pow skirt). The fabric is durable and the black color is not shiny--a nice matte black. Pockets are simple and not overdone. Pit zips use small-teeth zippers and function easily. The chest pocket is handy and stays bone-dry. The style is choice--subtle luxury.

I expect this jacket will stay with me for a good ten years.

So I bought this jacket not necessarily for snowboarding but more for its combination of down plus gortex. When I received the jacket I noticed there is not a large amount of down in it and it is overall thinner than I expected. It is not cold enough here yet for a good field test so I'm wondering: Will this coat stand up well against significantly cold weather for extended periods even if you are not being significantly active?

Responded on

If it's anything like the Burton AK Flare jacket (women's) I'd have to say no. I bought it for the combo of Gore-Tex and down as well, but I have overall been disappointed.

Hi I am 6 foot 2, 160lbs, usually wear a size 40 jacket....should I be looking for a size Small or a medium on this jacket if sizes are running big? I mnormally buy a 'M' or 'L' size jacket depending upon the brand. Thanks

Best Answer Responded on

I would say go with the large. The burton AK stuff isnt cut large because its more performance orientated. I am 6'2 myself and I would buy a L or XL. For sure dont go with medium it will be too small.

i've got specially long arms but am 5'10 and 150lbs.. what size should i get (i have a large in burton at the moment). feel like i should get a L after the reviews i'm thinking M. please help... also, i'm from canada, is this coat warm enough? (it's not rare to see -30 aroun here). thanks!

Responded on

Hey Pierre - I'm from Calgary, owned this jacket for 3+ years, best jacket ever... spent a night in the Sunshine backcountry blizzard on the side of a hill in it, and was just fine for warmth... only caution: order a size smaller than you usually get, I received an XL of the new model when I sent my old one back for a zipper problem, and it's absolutely gigantic on me!!!

Like a comfy sleeping bag, awwwwwh

This jacket is very warm, I use it at resorts only because hiking in it would be like taking a saline shower. Too warm for anything above 21 deg F. The best warmth for temps around 10 deg F. w/ one light layer, as long as your turnin hard. Fits a little big, I'm 5'10" 165lbs and a medium fit good except my shoulders were tight and the arm length was short. I traded for a large now its a little long and baggy but my shoulders love it and my sleeves dont pull up when I bend over to strap in. The pit zips are weak little zippers and always get stuck on the inside flap. It gets really bad when the zipper gets stuck and your ridding the chair back up in 0 deg F. But after a while I learned how to be very careful with them. I'm not sold on the riri zipper either because it can freeze lock. for instance, if is freezing up top on the MT and below freezing at the base, then geting back up top will freeze lock the riri zip. The jacket is sweet but it only gets 4 stars for the zips.

If the continuum fits you snug in a Medium then I would suggest going with that same size.
