Bomber Goretex, but a few flaws

By:
September 22, 2011

I wore this jacket all of last season (2010-2011) and used it everywhere from the resort park to big backcountry lines. The fit is baggy, but not "steezy" like some of those kids like to wear their outerwear. I guess I'd call it 'technical baggy,' with enough room to move around in an layer under. The Goretex is super bomber, I took a ton of trees to the jacket, and not a single tear or anything. The ALS liner really keeps your body heat in when it's cold too, which I tested at sub-zero temps in Colorado last winter. The standing collar (separate from the hood) is nice too, keeping the wind away from your neck with your hood down. The zip-to-pants feature is definitely helpful too while in deep pow.

Now for the downsides. First off, I felt that the sleeves were way too short. I'm 6'-1" and moderately long arms and the large just didn't have enough length. Whenever I would be pushing myself out of the snow, the sleeves would pull back and let snow in. Also, the velcro on the sleeves does not work once it gets snow in them. At all. Not a good feature when out in the backcountry if you ask me. So maybe if the jacket had slightly longer sleeves, wrist gaitors, and better velcro, I'd probably still be using it for the upcoming season.

how does this fit? I'm 5'8" 150 typically were a M - I know I need to layer under this so I am assuming a M will work but if it runs very big then would a S be better?

I'm 6'-2" 190lbs. 42" chest. I tried on a large and felt like I was swimming in it. The body of the coat was kind of long, and the sleeves were ridiculously long. I wish I could have compared it to a medium, but the place I tried it on didn't have one.

My point is that Burton's size guide shows me in a large, but I think I'd be more comfortable in a medium.

I would agree with Andrew... slightly baggier but a Medium should fit good!

It does run a bit baggier, but not to the extent that you need to size down. I would stick with the medium.

AK line is all you need

By:

Not a big fan of Burton boards or bindings. Not what they used to be. But their clothes and boots are the best. Especially love the AK line for it's simplicity and excellent design. You can tell that the AK gear has been battle tested. AK Stagger Jacket with AK Insulator Jacket and I'm prepared for any conditions. Also like that the AK line keeps the amount of pockets to a minimum. Only has what you need.
