The best turns are the ones you earn. Backcountry snowboarding requires a bit more gear than a day of riding lifts, though. Burton designed the AK 23L Backcountry Pack for quick access to the essentials. External probe, pole, and shovel carry means you can get to the important stuff without wasting any time. 1,400 cubic inches of storage gives you plenty of room for lunch, an extra layer, skins, and extra water. The AK 23L even gives you a couple board carry options so you can stroll into the wilderness or jump on the back of your buddy's snowmobile for an easy, breezy hike.

Bottom Line: Earn your turns.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

I disagree. I would not use this pack to carry a DSLR. You would probably be able to physically fit it in, but it wouldn't offer much protection, either shockwise or from moisture, particularly if you are heading out into the BC with all the requisite gear. You should probably look at other more specific DSLR packs from burton, clik elite or dakine, although these are a little bulkier, but importantly they all have compartments where you can separate the camera from other gear (skins, layers, food etc) to avoid getting the camera wet.

Really depends on the size of the camera body and lens you attached to it. But it will fit most modern DSLRs with a lens less than 135 or so safely.

Write your question here...does the 2011 version have a panel

Write your question here...does the 2011 version have a panel that folds down for the horizontal board carry? The description says it does, but last years didn't, and they claimed the same horizontal carry situation.

Yes it does. It allows you to carry your board horizontally, the back panel completely protects your back and the board.
