Leave the extra batteries at home, and power your iPod with the Brunton Solaris i6. This foldable Brunton solar panel turns solar energy into power for your iPod, so you can listen anytime and anywhere the sun shines. The Solaris i6 will also completely charge your iPod in two to four hours.
Bottom Line: Don't be without your tunes at camp or on the trail—pack the foldable, lightweight Brunton Solaris i6 for your iPod.
It will work for new iPhones but you have to do some shopping around, buying different chargers and seeing what works. I suggest buying your charging accessories at a store close by that allows returns. First I tried the included charger, didn't work with iPhone. Next I tried a high output 2.1 amp usb car converter with a usb apple cable, also a no go. I returned these two failed attempts and tried another usb car converter with the apple cable and it worked. I will try to post the brand of charger that is working when I get back. It charged my non-smartphone with just the car charger that I had. Great product, you just have to do a little hunting to make it work for specific items. Department of Goods/SAC is always helpful and stands behind the products they sell.
Ok so the best adapter I found is a Griffin high output for tablets and smartphones 10 watt/ 5v @ 2.1 amps. It was around $15 at my local Walmart. It is charging my iPhone 4S without having to shut the phone down.
Just got mine (at a huge discount!). And I can tell you first hand that this is the same unit as the Solaris 6 but it comes with an extra cable for an iPod (this extra cable will not work with iPod touch or iPhone as the polarity of the cable is switched for them for some reason - thanks jerks at Apple).
But alas you can use this with any cigarette style car chargers that you have so it does not matter. Throw the extra cable away if you want and you still have a Solaris 6 with the other 3 cables. Win win!

This is a great device that packs up easy, but gets the job done quickly! Durable, and charged my ipod in about 3.5 hours in direct light (newer ipod touch). Lifesaver for camping with small children when hiking is done for the day and you don't want them jumping in the lake or seeing how hot fire is. Next adventure is backpacking with my iPhone and its built in compass! I am sure the i6 won't disappoint!
I do not bring an ipod or the like with me, what I am interested in charging is my HD cam and possibly my digital SLR battery. Being my cam charges with a mini usb, I am sure that will work, but will it support a standard 120v plug? Or is there an adaptor?
It comes with a 12V female car (lighter type) cable, so you could use a small A/C inverter and plug into that to use your existing 120V camera charger, or you could get an aftermarket 12V DC car charger for your camera batteries and plug directly into the 12V female cable that comes with the solar charger. Either way should work fine.
It comes with an iPod adapter, a car outlet adapter, and a multi-link adapter to hook more than one solar array together. It's essentially the same as the Brunton Solaris 6 (http://www.backcountry.com/store/BRU0143/Brunton-Solaris-Flexible-Personal-Solar-Panel.html) but with the addition of an iPod adapter. So long as whatever you have has a car adapter/charger, it would work.
If you're looking for something that will power multiple devices, including an iPod, without having to carry around a lot of specific car adapter/chargers, here is one suggestion (you will need a USB -> iPod adapter): http://www.backcountry.com/store/BRU0148/Brunton-Solarport-44.html
