Don't believe so - it should run off any green propane canister or a larger 5+ gallon tank that you might use with your typical "green camp stove."

Let me start by saying make sure you really seat the gas connection properly before you start cooking or you may have a really large flare up. Having said that this boils water very quickly on full blast while also simmering at a very low heat. The burner can be used with a large propane tank as long as you get a step down pressure adaptor like the one Coleman makes.
