The Brunton L3 Headlamp features a 3-Watt Luxeon LED bulb that throws out an astonishing 207-foot beam of light, easily illuminating objects that are far out of range for most headlamps and a fair share of flashlights as well. What's equally amazing is that while most super-duper-bright LED lights munch power like popcorn at the movies, this Brunton wonder sports a marathon 200-hour life using just four AA batteries in its unique dual cases. Pop four C-cells into the included external battery case, and the L3's beam will last a claimed 300% longer, an expedition-worthy 600 hours of blazing, high-intensity light (we haven't even had one long enough to test that out, but still…wow). So while the Brunton L3 might be a tad heavy, and it's not ideal for every use, we know what headlamp we're grabbing if the sun goes out tomorrow.
The light was great and very bright and I just couldnt pass it up for the price I found it at. But I recently sold it for the new Petzl MYO RXP and I couldnt be happier. The Brunton's beam is just too narrow. I got caught on a hike at night on a pretty rocky and technical trail, and the narrow beam just didnt show enough of the trail. It really needs diffuser of some kind. Plus, by having the 4 AA's on your head, its alittle heavier than normal. Nothing to unbearable but it really needs a third strap to keep it from slipping..It comes with a separate battery pack for C-batteries but that was just to heavy to carry.
I use it three times in a 8 to 10 hours night trips (include Via-Ferata and rock climbing in total darkness!) and the light is so stong that you can see the next marking on the trail in total darkness! (a 100meter ahead). and I useing the same batterys that came with the headlamp! this is the strongs headlamp I ever used. and I used three stong models of Black Diamond (Moonlight, Nightray and Helion). this is the best!

This is a good headlamp. It is solid and the removable battery packs are a nice touch. It is very bright, though it doesn't seem to have the same illuminating power as the xenon bulb headlamps I've used in the past (although batteries last many times longer when running an LED than they do with a xenon bulb). I have not used this lamp enough to comment on the battery life, but the mechanics and ergonomics of it are good, and it is lightweight, comfortable, and sturdy.
I've used the L3 for 2 years now after my other expensive (Primus) headlamp broke and this L3 exceeds my expectations. Originally I had been skeptical of Brunton brand headlamps but after reading other reviews I changed my opinion. This is about the brightest led headlamp you can get besides the ridiculously expensive L5 lamp. The L3 really is impressively bright and has incredible battery life. The only thing wrong here is the price.
HI, I DO A LOT OF NIGHT FISHING IN HAWAII FROM HIGH ROCKY AREAS , LOT OF CRACKS , HOLES. MY FOOTING IS MY BIG;EST CONCERN WOULD THE BRUNTON L3 3-WATT HEAD LAMP BE WHAT I NEED OR DO I NEED SOMETHING STRONGER. I WOULDLIKE TO HAVE THE STRONG;EST THAT I CAN GET SAFETY IS A STRONG CONCERN WITH ME. THAK YOU AND MAHALO FOR YOUR TIME. NAPUABOY*******
You can't go wrong with this light. It has an intense 3 watt LED capable of 200 ft. + illumination, backup power source beyond the 200 hrs., & dimmer switch in case you don't need maximum light.http://www.brunton.com/product.php?id=396
Great headlamp. Comfortable to wear, and very bright. I was a bit surprised by this light when I turned it on. Compared to some of my previous Black Diamond's this one is right up there and compared to some models, even brighter than them. It's of average weight with the four batteries, however I think this would be really heavy and even uncomfortable with the attached C batteries. The regular batteries last quite long. My only complaint is with the focus of the light. It is somewhat of a narrow beam, so if you are looking for a wider beam for night-hiking this might not be the perfect light for you. Great for cave explorers.
Best light I have ever used in every way. Not too heavy for the head, amazing battery life, EXTREMELY bright for any light and very impressive considering it is an LED. Highly recommended is you want a stellar light and not ULTRA expensive.
