Remember your last road trip when you were asked a distance and you looked at the map before replying “two inches?” Well, the Brunton Digital Map Measurer supplies a much better reading. Not only will this palm-size device tell you how far you have to go on a drive, hike, or backcountry ski tour, but it also includes a calculator, flashlight, and compass to aid with any other questions you may have.

Bottom Line: Don't look like an idiot.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

I have a "MM10602 Digital Map Measurer" which was not used for some time, and needed the batteries replaced. After replacing the batteries, I could not get the digital figures to display properly. 4 to 7 dashes of vertical and horizontal lines would show, but was not legible. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm going to assume you replaced the batteries with AG13 lithium batteries. If the light works without any issues, then it's likely to be a system error. If the light has any problems, you might remove the batteries again, check for any corrosion, rub down the battery connectors with rubbing alcohol (using a moist, not wet, Q-Tip) or change out the batteries with new to see if you can duplicate the problem. If it is a system error, your best option is to contact Brunton support at either support@brunton.com or 1-307-857-4700.

Well assuming that that buttons that only worked occasionally were due to a defective item and not how the device normally functions, it "should" actually do a decent job. With that said... The device is small, which is what I needed for backpacking but its shape was combersom trying to follow a winding trail and I was not prepared for the ittsy bittsy text burried off to the side in the shadows for things like km, mi, and knots. In my opinion, virtually unreadable without having to take my glasses along too..even with the back light on. The actual numbers are easy to read and most functions are easy to understand and set (when the buttons work) and it does more than I expected function wise with respect to times, alarm, etc. Sadly I did have to send it back because of the button issue and have to use the analog one I also purchased due to time constraints for my trip. Its a shame I wasted 2nd day air shipping on Brunton's Quality Control. Do note that the wheel is large compared to the anlog wheel making it much harder to follow a very winding path. Also don't let the many digits fool you into thinking "accuracy". The last three digits don't appear to offer much. For example, in 1:24,000 mode, the last three digits were 222, then jump to 447, etc. But who needs trail distance to the nearest half a foot or better anyway?
