It's a compass.

Hasn't dont much besides roll around in my bag on a camping trip. The scale on the actual compass is sort of busy, but whatever. Tool-less declination adjustment works well, although it was a bit tricky at first. You pinch the vial of the compass while you twist the ring. The first adjustment was very hard, but once it loosened up a bit it was very easy.

This compass is an $18 insurance policy against dying 'cause you're really cheap. Just don't forget the map.

Simple, lightweight

By:

This compass does exactly what is advertised, for not much weight. The no-frills design is ideal, adding none of the weight of competitors that have cases and signal mirrors, while incorporating nice features like magnification and illumination without adding weight. I would recommend this for people that want simple orienteering without any of the extras.

Back-Up

By:

I wanted a no frills compass as a back-up to my GPS, just in case. This is lightweight and does what it is supposed to do without all of the gadgets of other models.

Basic is best

I bought this for a back up but ended up using it more then my sighting compass. It has a very fast needle and large print on the dial make it easy to read. I really like the low light design I used it on a full moon night while paddling on a near by lake and the compass lit my map up like a flash light.

this is a compass

this is a compass. it functions as such. no fancy bells or whistles (that i probably wouldn't know how to work anyway without studying some manual). handy on long trails without mile markers. map scale markers seem accurate in my limited use. pretty tough. good price for what you get. stuck the old coleman one in a drawer after i got this. if you know how to use it, this is better than a GPS where price and weight are concerned...
