Weighing just an ounce, this slope meter is a no-brainer must-have.

Venture into the backcountry and you're going to want a sure-fire way to get a read on slope angle. The Brooks Range Slope Meter gives you fast, accurate measurements so you can stay out of the 30- to 45-degree danger zone. Drop your pole on the slope, lay this slope meter on your pole, and a ball bearing suspended in fluid slides along the track to show your the angle. The most avy-prone slopes are marked in bright colors, and the backside of this meter has 1 and 2mm grids for snow-study use.

Amazingly handy

It always helps to have an inclinometer when out adventuring, and this thing makes it super easy to identify the type of terrain you're on. Like the thing says, it's only an ounce, it fits right in my pack's hipbelt pocket along with a magnifying glass, so why not?! Having the mini crystal card on the back is awesome too, just in case you don't have/want one of those fancy bigger ones.
