This is a good fitting light-weight sock, but it is very short. It feels odd--almost halfway sock. I prefer at least another two inches or so even in a crew sock.

Another great pair of Bridgedale socks. The length is a bit odd, since they are the standard length for hiking boots or low-hikers, but they do stay put and are actually adequate length for hiking boots (just barely reach above Vasque Sundowners). Lightweight, but well-cushioned.

The color choices indicate that these are the men's models. However, your wife could still wear these in in men's medium for womens size 8 1/2.

They aren't tight on the leg but don't slide down at all. Height is a bit shorter than expected but perfect for my Asolo 520's.
Update: I wore these for four days, taking them on and off a dozen times or so, then wore them for a three-mile walk---still didn't slide down at all.

I like these socks, but i'm not sure they are worth the price. try and off brand before spending $15 for a sock.
