Whether you’re mastering groomers or know everything there is about ultra-light touring setups, the Backcountry Skiing Skills Book provides extensive, trail-tested knowledge for mastering backcountry travel. This guide draws from tried-and-true experience to share valuable beta about avalanche safety, trip planning, emergency preparedness, winter camping, nutrition, and rope climbing.

Bottom Line: Cheaper than a class and easier than a sled ride up a bootpack.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Before you just head out into the backcountry, there are a few books that I'd recommend reading and this is one of them. Although some of the information is geared towards the glaciated slopes of Europe, it's very in depth and provides an easy to read format that is rich in photos, explanations, and details. When combined with field experience, a study of this book will give you confidence and knowledge to help keep you alive in the backcountry. Put down the tv remote and get some knowledge son!
