The Boardman Elite AiR 9.8 Frameset is aerodynamic design incarnate. Chris Boardman started with wheels and a rider, then set about optimizing everything that goes between those. The Elite AiR 9.8 is the result. Any gram of drag that could be reduced was, and anything that was causing drag was removed, smoothed, or tucked away (like the brake calipers). Unlike some aero-minded designers, though, Boardman know that wind happens at all angles, and designed the frame accordingly.
The frame makes use of a PF30 bottom bracket shell, which allowed the frame designers a bit more real estate to mate the large downtube to the rest of the bike. All cables route internally, again to hide them from the wind, and the fork is designed to literally slice through oncoming air as you ride. All this carbon fiber won’t weigh you down, though –the 9.8 weighs in at just under 1150g.
