The combination of Shimano's Ultegra Di2 gruppo with BMC's Race Machine RM01 results in a performance bicycle that can dominate the local crit circuit or catapult you to the KOM on your next gran fondo. While the Team Machine represents the pinnacle of BMC's offerings, the BMC Race Machine RM01/Shimano Ultegra Di2 Complete offers the greatest performance return per investment dollar.

Designed for racing, the RM01 puts you in a powerful and efficient aerodynamic position. This also means it has a carefully designed carbon layup that ensures low weight, strength, and stiffness where you want it. A mix of high-modulus and high-tensile material perfectly balance strength, durability, and weight. High-modulus is strong and stiff, but relatively brittle. So BMC mixes in lower modulus, high-tensile fiber to add durability. Together, it creates a bike frame that possesses all the right characteristics.

As stability is paramount to BMC, they use a tapered 1-1/8in to 1-1/4in steerer tube. This lends stiffness for stability through high-speed turns and on rough pavement, but it's still comfortable because of BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept (TCC). BMC engineers created zones in the fork legs where the material and shapes are selected to provide a degree of compliance, while maintaining the torsional and lateral stiffness you need for uncompromising performance and precise steering. The RM01 seatpost also features their Tuned Compliance Concept. In other words, the Race Machine is easy on your body in the bumps, but still extremely stiff when cranking out the watts .

One feature you can't miss on the RM01 is the Integrated Skeleton Concept (ISC) at the seat tube junction. While some might see it as an aesthetic flair, the truth is there's a strong practical reason for it. Advanced computer analysis allows BMC to fine tune both the shapes and the layup to maximize stiffness while minimizing weight. Continuing this fixation with optimization, all the cables are run externally, which is lighter and provides better function than most efforts at internal routing.

We've assembled our RM01 here as a race-ready package with a complete Shimano Ultegra Di2 group. The STI levers, derailleurs, brakes, and crankset are all there. The rest of the build kit is comprised of parts we'd ride on our race bikes. You'll get an Easton EC90 SLX3 Handlebar and EA70 Stem, and the BMC RM01 Racepost TCC Seatpost with a Fizik Antrares 2 perched on top. The Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels shod in Continental Ultra Race tires are ready for anything.

The BMC Race Machine RM01/Shimano Ultegra Di2 Complete Bike is available in White. It comes in six sizes from 47 - 60cm. The Race Machine passes the strictest CEN testing for frame fatigue. It has no weight limit and comes with a three year manufacturer's warranty.

Does this have a compact crank (50-34), and what size is the cassette?

Responded on

That is a great question, and we should have that listed. The spec on that BMC Race Machine RM01 should be a 53 / 39 Chain Rings and a 12 - 25 Cassette.
Please keep in mind Specifications are subject to change without notice on BMC factory builds. Feel free to contact me to discuss any other spec. dmyers@backcountry.com

I am 5'8" 155 lbs. Should i ride a 50 or 53? or 52? Please advise.

Responded on

Hey,

Unfortunately there are other factors to sizing a bike correctly. Please use the "Fit Guide" located directly below the size chart link in the upper left of the product page.

Best Answer Responded on

As a rough guide, riders at 5'8" would usually go with a 50cm RM01. Feel free to contact me to discuss this sizing further. brett@competitivecyclist.com

What is the front/rear gearing on this? Crank length?

Responded on

Click on "configure bike" at the top right, it tells you cog/chainring sizes. I'm sure the crank length (for the 50cm - which is the only size left) is 172.5

Does this bike have the BB30 or the BB90??

Responded on

Actually I believe its BB86 ... Shimano's proprietary size.
- I'm fairly sure of this as I have been flirting with getting a BMC for a few years now and their commitment to Shimano has always been a deterrent (all my spare parts are SRAM).

how long does the battery last?

how long does the battery last?

Responded on

The battery for the DI2 electric shifting lasts around 6 months on a charge depending on how much you ride and shift gears

The BMC Race Machine RM01/Shimano Ultegra Di2 Complete Bike is certainly a race ready rig. The setup I had was SRAM Red and the doubletap shifting too a bit to get used to. I also didn't have the greatest testing platform for riding longevity as my only options were sheer climb and descent.

However, the amount of steering that I was getting and the minimal amount of road reverberation that I got made this rig impressive. I was also in-between the 53 and 55 sizes (5'11"; 180lbs; 34" inseam). The 53 pounced a bit more on the turns and climbed a bit better, but the 55 carried speed better.
