I have used my blue water lightning pro in every condition on so many types of rock, and i must say that it is a solid rope that can take abuse and hold up without any doubts. The stretch is great and tends to lean towards a soft catch. I used a lightning pro when I was learning how to lead, and I have continued to use a lightning pro while testing my abilities on more difficult sport/big wall/trad climbs as well. I have friends that own the exact same rope with the same opinions.

A really good all around rope that is durable and lasts.

best all around

I took a gamble when I got this rope. I'd never used a blue water rope but the reviews were favorable, I like trying new brands, and heck it was on sale. So far I've put it through two months hard use (climbing 3-5 days per week) including a week in the Red and have been disappointed.

Pros: Feeds VERY well and doesn't get super kinky. It's pretty. Seems to shed dirt well.

Con: Has worn super fast (I need to chop it already) To comare my Sterling 9.2 is holding up better and has been through worse. At .5mm larger I'd expect more durability.

Con: As a result of the wearing out it has gone floppy when clipping. I have used PMI and Sterling ropes nether of which have ever done this to me.

Con: Stiff catch, maybe I got a bad batch of rope b/c everyone below says it catches softly. My climbing partner who has used my other ropes as well agrees this thing is jarring in comparrison.

I have been very impressed with this rope. I would suggest this rope for intermediate to advanced sport climbers. It is rather small for top roping but performs very well on lead. The catch is wonderfully soft. Even on top rope if you slip it'll stretch 3-5 ft. Quality construction with very durable materials. Turns your hands black even before you start getting it dirty.

This is a sick rope with an insanely soft catch! I do mostly limestone sport climbing and it is perfect for sending! Ive had it for a few months now and the only reason i didnt give it five stars is because the sheath has gotten pretty fuzzy quickly but probably mostly due to the rock and rope drag at my local crags. One of my favorite parts about this rope is that it is super light weight but i still love the 9.7 feel. Its not stiff at all and is so smooth through my guide. I would recommend this rope for sure!

Will there be some kind of tag or indication...

Will there be some kind of tag or indication to tell whether the rope is dry or standard? As im concerned if i bought a pricer dry rope on line and got the standard instead, it would cost too much to send it back via international post.

Thanks

There won't be a tag on the rope most likely (although some have that information on the sticker at each end of the rope). What you can do is just hold it under a faucet. Any dry-treated rope will repel the water and not absorb it, just like a rain jacket, and a rope that's not treated will soak it up very quickly. I doubt that the company you bought it from would make you pay return shipping if they sent you the wrong product.

love this rope. i have last years [neon yellow] bi-patten, its great to be able to clearly see your rope to the top of a pitch even in low light. very distinct bi- pattern makes finding center easy. of the ropes i've climbed on, this one has the best feel. takes knots well, and has a very positive feel clipping. after one year of use, this thing still looks new; and it has been dragged all over squamish, index, indian creek, moab, zion and the list goes on... still neon yellow, sheath is perfect!

Rope = awesome workhorse. I have the dry treated bi-flavine, it works well, has a soft catch and looks great. What more do you want?

Super soft catch, light, and i have the 70 meter, so it's nice and long. has proved more durable than i thought it would, it felt as if it had a pretty wimpy sheath at first, but i have used it pretty consistently for six months now, and it still looks new despite some dirt from the outside (i do treat it as my baby). I have several different ropes, and found this one of my favorites.

LIGHT, DURABLE, LONG, EASY TO MANEUVER

I still think a stronger sheath would be optimum, so if you climb where the rock is really sharp and lots of chances for snags, be careful (i know this is obvious, but it does not feel as strong as my last few ropes).

This has awesome feel. It's not all stiff and hard to use and clip. I can't say yet whether that reduces it's durability, but Blue Water is known for quality ropes so I'm betting this thing will last a long time.

When I first got this rope, I only used it for multipitch and moderate trad. Then this spring it became my main rope. Sport climbing and dogging, whippers in Indian Creek, multi-pitch in Red Rocks, and even topropes on occasion when I'm taking a new climber out. My partner rubbed through the sheath a foot from the end while climbing the final squeeze of Lightning bolt cracks, so I cut it and now have a 59.7 meter rope, but otherwise this thing has held up marvelously to all manner of falls and abuse. The super-visible neon color is either a bonus or a detriment, depending on your opinion. Personally, I like it.

Bottom line: It's light, it's durable, and it handles well.

I love this rope. I use it the other day and took a huge wipper on it, the catch was the softest i have ever had. I was also really surprise how much stretch there was, love it!!!!! This is the smallest rope that i have use, and i still trusted it like it was a 10.2mm rope. You dont feel the ropes weight when you are tried and at the top a the cliff trying to get that last clip. Yes i would recommend this rope to everyone.

I've spent 19 days on an himalayan big wall with one of these and it survived with flying colors. It is a durable beast!

This is the best 9.7 on the market. Bluewater Ropes are known for their safety, durability and most importantly their SOFT CATCH. I swear by these ropes and love the fact that Bluewater is an American Made, and Family Owned Company, which is a rarity these days! Also, Bluewater has the best quality control in the business and hand inspects every inch of rope that goes out their door. If you want one rope that does it all, look no further.
