Perfection meets durability

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This rope gets an abundance of compliments from seasoned climbers at the crag. The Bi-Flavine color pattern practically glows on the rock. An important aspect of this rope is its fall rating which often gets overlooked. I have used this rope on coarse granite in southern Arizona and it has performed flawlessly.

My go to rope

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had 3 of these in ten years of climbing and its always my go to rope. I have had many other rope, and some are better for special circumstances but you just can't beat a lightning pro. It's pretty light, has great feel and a good catch. They stand up well to abuse. It's a great rope and a good investment.

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

All my buddies love this rope, even the ones who normally swear by other brands. It's not too heavy, the specs are great and it's got just the right amount of suppleness; the color is dope too!

Love it!

Old Reliable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Getting ready to order my second lightning pro. Sadly this last weekend while on a double rope rappel a rock broke loose and it took a core shot about 5 meters from the center point. This has been a great rope and the double dry treatment works like a champ. After several routes Ice climbing in warm temps last winter my friends Sterling took on water like a sponge and he swore up and down it was dry treated, my lightning pro was barely damp. I have used this bad boy on pitch after pitch on Devils Tower and it is easy to manage which is critical in Multi Pitch trad nothing worse then fighting pig tails from a hanging belay. I have no idea how many routes of sport have been climbed on this but it has held up amazing well. There was no doubt in mind about purchasing another.

Can it beat Guam?

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this while in Vancouver, WA. It's been around the gym, down to Smith Rock, up Mt. Rainer, and now enjoying the caves in Guam. The challenge I have is the lack of routes and lack of other climbers here in Guam, I'm constantly teaching the basics to friends who want to give it a whirl but have no real interest in the sport or lack the physical stamina demanded by it. We don't have a gym here so I'm all they get. This rope is my training tool, I know it will take a fall or two or ten because it has, nothing insane but still love how well it responds. Guam's caves grind mud deep into the rope which requires long hours cleaning it, but it is worth it because it always comes out buttery smooth and nimble (it's luster is just starting to fade). Stateside friends would rave about how cool it looks, the sweet and helpful bi color and bright neon green (great contrast for photos BTW). All in all I love it and I always love where it takes me.

Favorite Rope

The specs on this rope are AWESOME! Only 7.8kN of transferred force to the climber and it takes 8 falls. Combine that with a weight of only 61 grams per meter, and it makes one BAD ASS rope!
It is really easy to handle and I get compliments from everyone who uses my rope.
My favorite part is that Blue Water Ropes are AMERICAN MADE! So, you can help the economy while helping your climbing.

Best rope on the market

Had this rope for 8 mo or so now and all I have to say is WOW! It is very light and durable for a 9.7, but its best feature is how it handles. This rope feeds so smooth you almost forget its there! Very soft feeling rope that never twists. I recommend this rope to anyone I know who is in the market.

Great rope

This is my workhorse rope. I use it for everything. Ice climbing, crags, trad, sport, gym. Everyone I climb with always comments on what a great rope it is. It clips well and has a great supple feel. It will get wet on really wet ice climbs, but most of the time it sheds water really well.

Bought this for TR'ing at Ouray. The DoubleDry works as advertised. I dropped this into a semi-frozen creek at the bottom of the gorge and had no issues with freezing or water soaking into the rope. For a 9.7, its very supple and runs through belay devices smoothly. I'm a convert, I'll buy Blue Water ropes from here on out.

The Rope that does Everything!

For over a year I have been beating on this rope and it shows no signs of wearing out. From marathon sport climbing days to sharp rocks and edges in the alpine this has been my go-to cord for all my climbing endeavors. The rope has excellent handling and over time it retains its "out of the box" feel. It feeds very well through many different belay devices (ATC, Gri Gri, Cinch) and the sheath has a way of keeping dirt and debris from collecting. I will continue to use the Lightning throughout next season and I predict it has at least another full season of use left in it if not more.

Fore reference, I usually wear out other brand's ropes in about 6-8 months.

Almost Perfect

I love this rope and its handling both indoors and out. The color (bi-color) is great. and more importantly the rope handles falls very well but does stretch A LOT. The rope handles like a dream with an ATC or a gri-gri and is very easy to clip even at the top of a 90ft lead!
Te only reason I gave it four stars is that the sheath is wearing a little too fast for my liking. I have been extremely careful with it on my two outdoor excursions. I have however taken many huge whippers on it indoors. Also I've never used a rope this thin before so that might be why it seams to be fraying quickly to me. Love the Blue water ropes so I opted to go up to a 9.9 instead.

This Lightning is the perfect Balance between performance, weight and durability, and you will be amazed how long this rope lasts. I was. These ropes are lighter than the competitors for their diameter while being more durable and softer catching. Maybe it's because they have the best quality control in the industry and make all their ropes right here in America!
