Kid's love it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great little head lamp. My son uses it at home as well. The only annoying thing is the screw latch on the battery cover. I'm sure it would hold fine without the screw, but kind of irritating if you don't have a tiny screwdriver handy when you need to change the batteries.

Great for grownups too

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got this headlamp and a cheap backup to have just kicking around. The fact that it is kid sized makes it nice to jsut leave in a glovebox and not take up too much space. The stretchy adjustable waistband will still fit on almost any adult sized head as well.

My kid loves it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got this for my 2-year old because he was always trying to steal my more expensive headlamps. He loves it. It's bright enough, but not overly bright. The dimmer function is nice, as is the 2-hour auto shut-off. The screw is no big deal for me, I guess. Batteries should last an eternity it this little bugger.

Super cute kid's headlamp

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

A great kid's headlamp that's as cute to wear as it provides good light for our young explorer.

Tough enough for grownups, made for kids

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Grabbed a couple of these to have as extras for when I go camping with my nephews. They're fully functional, basic headlamps just shrunk down a bit.

They have a screw closure (so little 'uns can't open these up and try to eat the batteries), but other than that they're pretty similar to a grown up model. With the adjustable headband, an adult could probably even use it in a pinch.

My Nephew's love them.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these for all of my 4 nephew's when they were heading off to camp this summer. They were a hit and helpful as well. great inexpensive option.

Cool all around lamp

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am no kid, but I use it a lot. It is simple and lightweight, perfect for working around camp. It doesn't have a long range, it is useful when working with your hands. The battery lasts a lot and it is very resistant.
It is not waterproof and the headband could get loose if you use for running or a bumpy activity.
The batteries need a small screwdriver to get changed but I took / lost my screw a while back and use it without it. It doesn't fall apart and I prefer the easy access to the battery tray.

Cool little headlamp for kids.

These can usually be found at a fair price. Good little lamp. My daughter loves it. As noted, the batteries must be changed using a little screwdriver. As long as you know that, the rest is great. I assume there is a reason for it, being a kids lamp and all.

Great for kids. Simple to use. Bright enough for basic night time tasks.

I would recommend to my friends.

Basic headlamp!

It's a comfortable fit and I love all the colors and patterns. The light range is pretty good! I love that the light will automatically go off after 4 hours, there are many times I forget to turn it off. It's kinda a pain to change the batteries, that is my only con.

Simple

This is a simply headlamp, although I've already lost the screw driver. :( The batteries haven't run out yet, it's been through two seasons!

Not sure

It's a headlamp. It seems to work. It's small and reasonably priced. It's very similar to my old one from BD, except it's got 2 LEDs not 3.

However, BD has added A PHILIPS SCREW to the battery compartment. There's a small screwdriver in the package. Really? Am I supposed to carry a special screwdriver at all times on trips so I can swap out batteries in a headlamp? Seems like an afterthought to fix a design screw up.

Responded on

It's marketed for kids. Every battery-containing product I have bought for my kids over the past 12 years has a screw holding the battery compartment closed. Even if there's a latch too. Must be a CPSC rule. My kids' older Wiz headlamps don't require the screw to keep the batteries in.

I say it's a small price to pay for such a cool headlamp. Until we bought these, it was pretty standard to use a set of batteries per trip as the flashlight would always get left on. Wiz shuts off after an hour or so.

let your light shine on

This is a great headlamp for the small hiker. My niece loves the light. See is 6 years old and use the light for everything.

Backpacking light for my 7 yr. old

I bought this kids headlamp for my 7 year old who is going on her first backpacking trip soon. Getting those 2 AAA batteries in this thing was like a crazy puzzle. Because it's marketed for a child who (apparently) is prone to removing the batteries and eating them, I guess? It comes with a tiny screw driver to loosen a tiny screw to open and close the battery compartment. Who's going to take this little screw driver with them everywhere this headlamp goes?! Why didn't they make it a flat head screw so you can use your leatherman tool or maybe a dime to open and close it?! Anyway, the screw was the first thing we removed and threw away. It works fine without it. Otherwise, easy to use the power button. It's just on/ off and the strap adjusts easily too.

Stoked 4-year Old

My little one got one of these for Christmas and she loves it. The fact it comes in pink and her size was a big plus. She has fun playing with it all over the house and when we are camping. It is plenty bright for her needs of navigating in the dark or going on some little adventure.

One pain is changing batteries, is it requires a screw driver.

great for kids

Light weight and easy to use. The auto shut off is great.

screwdriver to get into the battery pack, REALLY??

my wife and I have 20 plus years between us leading extensive wilderness trips. We have learned to trust that black diamond makes quality gear. more than once I could say that I owe my continued life to black diamond gear.

We have two young girls so when we saw your headlamp marketed to kids we were sure that it would be a home run. It is, it is simple, bright, light weight and it fits their heads.

The packaging at Christmas was immediately chucked. When attempting to install the battery we were struck hard and fast. screw access to the battery necessitating a very small screwdriver (included)?
1. are we expected to carry the thing in the field? and not lose it into a creek etc
2. Even if we never took the lights in the field are we expected to not lose it.

It seems like a colossal fail in my book. a fail in terms of product testing. Clearly the light was never put into the hands of a parent because even organized parents like us would see that the screwdriver would be lost before the first change in batteries. the screw is so small that even one of those 8 in one screwdrivers or a Swiss army knife would not be able to open it.

Bad design, Black diamond should be ashamed. If I can find the packaging they are going back to the store...

Disappointed in a trusted brand.

We will get over it

Why do people start their childish rants with some inflated claim of their vast experience? 20 years? Between two of you? Wow! Big deal.... I have over forty by myself and I think the screw is a good idea. When my kids were small, if they could get at the battery it was disassembled and gone in five minutes. Then when they needed the light - guess what.

Responded on

Tim its the law that items for children have screw access to the battery compartment. That "disappointment" is that trusted brand PROTECTING YOUR CHILDREN.

simple

very simple headlamp. I use it as a just in case head lamp in my car glove box. It is bright but only turns on hi on low and off. Super basic.
